Chapter Six

“So, is the hot tub still lonely?”

She kicked him under the water. “Its satisfied.” She smiled happily and rested her head back. “We’re gonna freeze the second we step outta here.”

“All the more reason to stay in. I wouldn’t want the poor thing to get lonely again.”

Nikki groaned. “Are you not ever going to let that go?”

He thought for a moment, “No.”

She laughed softly and stared out at the falling snow. “I really do love it here. Its so beautiful.” Her head snapped up when she heard a knock on the front door and held out an arm to stop JC from standing. “Hey Mr. Superstar, let me go. Wouldn’t want to insite a riot or anything like that.”

He rolled his eyes as she stepped out, shivering. “Very cold. V-V-Very cold.” She wrapped a robe around herself and headed to the door.

She pulled the robe tighter and pulled the door open to a blinding flash. “Yes?” She asked, rolling her eyes at the reporter.

“Is JC here?”

Nikki raised an eyebrow. “JC?” I don’t know anyone by that name.” The reporter tried to talk, but Nikki interrupted him, “Look, sir. I don’t know who you think you are, but you are invading my privacy. Now I suggest you take you nose, and your camera, out of my business. I don’t know who this JC character is, but I pity the poor man when you find him. Good afternoon.” She shut the door in the bewildered man’s face and heard a burst of laughter from behind her. “How nice was that?”

JC shook his head. “I find you so amazing. That was great.”

“Yeah, well.” She winked at him. “I’m just that good.”

Nikki tossed a piece of popcorn in JC’s general direction as she continued threading them onto string.

He scowled, “Why’d you go and do that for?”

She looked at him, her face completely innocent. “What?” Nikki batted her eyelashes.

“You’re lucky I like you.”

Nikki snorted and draped her chain around the Christmas Tree. “Whatever you say dear.”

He hung a bulb on a higher branch. “You better watch it. I’m cooking Christmas Eve dinner tonight. I might…” He paused for dramatic effect, during which Nikki let out a yawn. “Slip something in your food.”

She laughed out loud, “Bring it.”

So the drugs I slipped into your stuffing should be taking effect in 15 minu-“

“Shh.” She interrupted him, “Did you hear that?”

JC stood still for a minute until he heard the bells and crunching, then a knock on the door.

Nikki walked over, “Its probably that reporter back for a second helping of my… oh you’ve got to be kidding me.”

“A dose of your what?” JC asked, turning around. “Whoa… Santa?” He snapped back to reality, “I mean, uh.. who are you?”

The Santa Claus pulled off its wig and beard in frustration. “I help you out for more than a week, but you can’t recognize me?”

Nikki let out a shriek and threw herslef at the woman, “How’d you find us?”

“Wasn’t hard. Your friends have big mouths, Prince.”

JC sighed. “Hi Arlee.” He walked out of the room with his hands held in the air.

Nikki snickered and turned back to Arlee. “How’ve you been? Why’re you here? How long can you stay?”

Arlee laughed kindly, “Good, I missed you, and until the 27th.”

“So we have three days.” Nikki beamed, “You want some leftover turkey?”

“Who made it?”

Nikki snuck a glance into the kitchen, where JC say, obviously listening to their conversation, “Prince”

The two heard a groan from the kitchen and burst into laughter. Arlee snickered, “Coming your Royal Highness.”
