Chapter Fourteen
“So you see dear, we would love to hear some of your stories. Our dear, dear granddaughter loves NSYNC and Innosense so. And you will make her day.”

JC nodded his wrinkled face, “Yes, and I just so happen to be the founder of Colorado’s biggest newspaper. We love gossip, mind you.”

Kyle nodded, “Oh of course. But… I do charge a… slight fee.”

“Nooo problem, sonny. We’re willing. Now, I’ve heard tell you don’t get along so well with these young people.” Nikki said in a cracked and weary voice.”

“Oh. Well, you know how it is.” He gave them a sly smile. “We don’t usually have very…
kind words to say to one another.”

Nikki tried her hardest to look understanding, “Oh yes dear. That Mandy firl? I hear she’s a piece of work.”

JC hid a snicker, “And your information on that dreadful DeLoach girl? That was something else, my boy. You’re a journalist in training.”

Kyle grinned, “Let me tell you two just how I did that. You’ll love this.”

“God,
c’mon you two, get him to confess!” Mandy squeeled outside in the van with Matt.

“They know, they will. Are you sure that contraption is recording this?”

“Positive. I wired them myself.”

“That’s what I’m worried about.”

“So those things you had printed….”

“Completely false. Its just so much fun to play with their minds. They deserve every second of it.”

“But printing fraud is illegal. Haven’t you ever stopped to think about what happens when you get caught?” Nikki asked.

“Caught? I won’t. These stories make me money, and everyone wants dirt on these people. Why not give them what they want?”

“But its still fraud.”

“Does that bother you George?”

“Not me. But there are others it might.” JC pulled his wig off and tore his moustache off his face. Through the thick stage makeup he spoke in his regular voice, “You’re done Kyle.”

Nikki sighed and pulled the grey wid off her head, shaking her brown hair out dramatically, “You have
no idea how hot this crap is.”

Mandy and Matt ran into the room with two police officers. “Almost makes you hate me all over again, eh Kyle?”

“Mandy we are not over. Do you hear me? We. Are.
NOT. Over.”

Matt stepped over and smirked. “Ever heard of a restraining order?”

“Against
all of us.” Nikki countered as Matt was led out of the room.

Mandy stared at Nikki and JC, “You two need to choose between one look or another. The half old-half young thing does
not work for you.”

Nikki rolled her eyes, “Somebody get this make-up
off me. You wouldn’t believe how itchy this gets.”

JC groaned, “I would. And these trousers? I’m never getting old. I’m so 1980 right now.”

Mandy punched him in the stomach, “You’re a wuss.”
