Chapter 8
"Mandy come on, open the door. Please!" Matt continued banging on the door. When it still wouldn't open, he sunk to the floor, acknowledging defeat. "Fine, Mandy!" he said to the door. "That's what you wanted wasn't it? To win? Well, you beat me. I can't get back into your heart now. I never should have left it, and I know I was stupid. You don't love me anymore, and no matter how hard I try, I can't stop loving you. Its not a phase, and its not something I'll forget over time. Because I will always know that there was a day when I loved you, Mandy Ashford. And God curse the day that love ends."

Mandy sat on the other side of the door, her head in her hands, "Matt." She managed to whisper. "Wait." She stood, opened the door, and the two stood face to face for the first time in a long time. "I... I don't understand this."

"Man-"

"No. Let me get this out. When you broke up with me, you said you didn't love me anymore. That's not an emotion you should've played with in me, Matt. And now... now you come back and say that you didn't MEAN it? That it was all WRONG?" She was sobbing now, but jerked away when he reached out to her, "Don't touch me. You were mean, and you were heart-less. Well, Matt, now its my turn. Leave me alone." She slammed the door in his face, and fell on the bed.

Matt grabbed the doorknob, not wanting to leave her like this. "Mandy, I'm not leaving. We have to talk this out. Or nothing will ever get better. We used to base our whole relationship on conversation. Now, you won't even try to-"

"Try to what, Matt? Beg for your love? Beg for you not to leave me alone?" She gave him a bitter smile. "No. I tried that already. But
you wouldn't let me talk, Matt. You told me we were through. What was I supposed to say to that? You were ready and willing to leave me alone and cold in this world. How am I supposed to know you won't try that again? Dammit, I trusted you! And you took everything I gave to you, and you threw it away like I meant nothing to you. And now I know. Now I know that I don't. I don't know why you came here tonight Matt, but I sure as hell know its not because you care about me. Now will you do us both a favor and leave?"

"If that's really how you feel."

"That's really how I feel."\

Matt choked back his tears, and walked from her room with his head held high. "Fine, Mandy. But I hope you know that you just lost the best thing that will ever happen to you. You remember that."

Mandy ran to the door and bolted it shut. She couldn't believe the turn her once-perfect life was taking. It was a nightmare. But it was a nightmare that she would never wake up from. She had ruined it.
Now who do I have to run to? Kyle? That's a joke. He's probably in so much joy right now....... "He's probably so happy."

"And he is."

"What are you.... how the hell did you get in here? What happened to security around here. All these lunatics seem to keep popping up."

"You're so sassy. But that's a characteristic that won't help you anymore."

"How do you know?"

"Because I know everything, Mandy. You know this." He grinned at her scared expression. "What seems to be the problem sweetheart? Frightened?"

"What do you
want from me?"

"You know what I want from you, Mandy. You've known. And, it might just pay a few debts that both of us owe."

"I don't know what you're talking about." She started for the door.

"Oh you know exactly what I'm talking about. And you don't actually think you're going anywhere do you? We have so
much to discuss Mandy. It might just take us all night."
