The doctor walked back into Nikki’s room, where JC was waiting. “JC? Uh, we’re about ready. I have to clear out the OR. They, they…. Just lost one.” “Ok. That uh, isn’t very common here is it?” “What?” “Losing one?” “Oh, heaven’s no!! Trust me, JC. She’ll be fine and back here with you before you know it.” JC nodded, “Ok, thank you.” The doctor walked to where Nikki lay on her bed, “Nikki? Are you ready?” “Doctor? That girl you were in there with…. Did she die?” “Yes. But Nikki, she isn’t you. That won’t happen to you. Just believe me, ok?” “Ok. Let’s do it.” ~~~~~~~~ “Nikki?” JC whispered as he saw her stirring out of sleep. “Josh? Hi.” “How are ya kid?” he asked as he moved a piece of hair out of her face. “Sore. Are you sure I’m okay?” she asked as she looked over his facial features, finally setting in on his blue eyes. “I am. But the doctor told me to tell him when you woke up so he could check you out. I’ll be right back.” She smiled at him, “You got it.” He left, then returned five minutes later with the doctor. The doctor grinned, “Well Nikki, I can’t tell you how happy I am to see you awake.” “Same here.” He laughed, the continued checking her over, “You’re fine, my dear. You can leave tomorrow around four ok?” “Yup! Thank you!” Nikki said brightly. JC pulled him aside, “Can I talk to you please?” “Of course. Let’s go to my office.” |
