Ten Steps Towards Freedom What can you do to end sexism?
Read about gender inequality and violence. Educate yourself and others about social forces and how they link to sexist conflicts.
Understand how your attitudes perpetuate sexism and work towards changing them.
Confront sexist, racist, and all other bigoted remarks or jokes.
Recognize homophobia and speak against it. Discrimination towards one sect of people only leads to discrimination towards all.
Don't fund sexism by purchasing magazines, videos, or CDs that portray women in a degrading manner.
Support candidates for political office who are committed to the equality of women.
Support battered women's shelters and rape crisis centers. Volunteer where you are needed, for example a shelter, public school, youth outreach centers, or political lobby groups.
Organize or join a group to work against sexism and violence.
Support feminists.
