1.
Secure all financing, paperwork and permits:
Check with local building and zoning officials.
2. Have the foundation ready.
Also fireplace, deck and porch footings if applicable.
3. Power installation.
We require at least 100 amps of service at 220 volts. Generators are inadequate to power
our tools. ALLOW PLENTY OF LEAD TIME as both foundations and power can require a lot of
time to install.
4. Good road site.
Bear in mind that the semi carrying your package can weigh 80,000 lbs. Clear trees at
least 26 feet wide to accommodate the longest lumber in the kit.
5. All terrain forklift and operator.
The forklift must have a 5,000 lb. minimum capacity, if the road to the site is difficult,
arrange for a larger forklift. Have plastic and pallets available for protecting the
materials.
6. Portable toilet on site.
7. Nearby water source.
Items 6 and 7 are necessary as we live on site. Access to water on site or from a nearby
neighbor is adequate.
8. Open an account at the local lumber yard.
For purchase of items not supplied by the kit manufacturer that improve overall
construction, such as subfloor adhesive, rafter ties, floor protectant and flashing.
REMEMBER, WE PROVIDE LABOR ONLY.
9. Review plans with your plumber and electrician.
We need to meet with the electrician a few days after our arrival to locate the outlets
and switches in the log walls. Other meeting maybe necessary.
Finally, items we appreciate, although not necessary.
10. Telephone service to the job site.
We use our calling card for long distance.
11. An operational well.
Water on site makes life a lot easier.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS.
We would lie for the foundation to be backfill as soon as the first floor is installed.
This makes for a safer and more efficient worksite.
Before placing the septic, bear in mind that considerable heavy equipment will be crossing
the job site. This could result in damage to the field and tank. Unless you are certain
these areas can be avoided, installation should wait until construction is complete.
COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO A PLEASANT BUILDING EXPERIENCE.
