The
Advent Chain
Cut 17 strips of purple construction
paper and 7 strips of pink construction paper. If you only have
white paper, color it the appropriate colors. As a family gather
and think of things that you could do during Advent. (Ex. Think of
a relative with white hair and pray for them, write a note inviting Jesus
to your home, spend 15 min. being totally quiet, read Luke 1:
18-25, bake cookies together, go to midnight Mass, etc.)
Write one thing on each strip of paper. Staple each one into a loop
forming a chain: 14 purple, 7 pink & 3 purple. Make a
star to attach to the last purple loop. Pick a time as a family
(might be a meal time) when you will take the specified loop off and read
what you will be doing for that day. Hang this somewhere in a
prominent location, so it is not forgotten. The smaller purple
section will be at the top.
Ornaments
Take a picture of your family
together or individually, find small frames and make them into ornaments
for on your tree. As the years go by, watch your family grow up.
Memory Bag
Find or make a small bag with a drawstring. Hang it on the
tree. During Advent have everyone in your family write their
outstanding memories of the year and put them into the bag. On
Christmas Eve open the bag and share the memories.
