Her birth appears not to have been recorded but she did appear on the 1870 census. The name of her husband and the dates of her birth and date came from Volume One of Residents of Virginia and West Virginia, page 402.

James appears to be the grandson of William R. Melton and Sarah Besaul. He is listed with the Melton family along with Sarah who appears to be his sister for the 1870 Federal Census in Piper's Gap Dist. of Carroll County. James is 13 and Sarah 15. However in the 1880 Federal Census Sarah is listed as age 21 and James 19.

William and Sarah had two daughters, Elizabeth (bc 1836) and Malinda (bc 1838), who were with the family in 1860 but not in 1870. One or the other must have been the mother must have been the mother of James and Sarah.

Another web site said that Guy M. Edwards married 2-Jan-1920 in Carroll County, VA, Viola Allen (2-Jan-1895/9). Their daughter was Katie Lee Edwards. It is not currently known whether Julia and James had any other children of their marriage.
