Robert called “Alex” was an Army brat during his father's military service. He was born in the navy hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. During his father's service, the family lived in Taiwan, Fort Campbell, KY, Germany, Korea, Augusta, GA (Fort Gordon) and the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.
When his father retired from the Army, the family moved to Columbia, SC, where his father attended Law School at the University of South Carolina. After graduation, the family moved to Fort Myers, FL where his parents still live.
After graduation from Fort Myers High School, Alex tried a few jobs in different fiew. Alex then decided to join the Army. He attended basic and advanced training as an administrative specialist at Fort Jackson, SC. Following completion of training, Alex was assigned to Aberdeen Proving Grounds where he volunteered for the Regimental Guards. He carried the colors and provided military grave services for deceased veterans. He was also part of the drill team.
Alex's next assignment was to Heidelberg, Germany under USAREUR DCSOPS. He volunteered for several temporary duty assignments to Incirlic and Princirlic, Turkey and to northern Iraq for Operation Provide Comfort for the Kurds. Receiving orders for Japan, Alex married Zorica, a winsome lass from Bosnia of the former Yugoslavia State. They were at Camp Zama, Japan for three years. Alex decided to leave the Army and, after spending a month with his parents in Fort Myers, Floria, returned to Germany.
Alex joined the US Army Reserve in Germany. He volunteered for several tours on an active status as the Operations NCOIC, providing Operational skills to include Military Training for Reserve Soldiers in support of our efforts in Bosnia and Kosovo. Alex served on temporary assignments in Taszar, Hungary; Tuzla, Bosnia and Kosovo. He currently holds the rank of First Sergeant (E-8) but is on the promotion list for sergeant major.
Alex works for a civilian contractor, Mantex, as the Senior Project Manager and manages the operations center in support of the Army Material Command. He was in Iraq for 90 days during late 2003 organizing technical assistance to the Army command for his firm.
Alex has been active in bowling, baseball and other sports. He earned a membership in the Professional Bowling Association (PBA). Alex has always volunteered his services with youth groups during his various assignments.
Alex was called up for a tour of duty in Kuiwait in August 2007. His unit trains Army personnel for service in Iraq. He return to Germany in June, 2008.
Alex has received numerous awards for his community service as well as for his military duties. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Joint Services Commendation Metal, Army Commendation Medal with several oak leaf clusters, the Joint Services Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the Army Achievement Medal with numerous oak leaf clusters, SW Asia Service Medal with campaign stars, Kosovo Service Medal, NATO Service Medal and numerous other service medals and ribbons.
Zorica was born in Gracanica, Republik Bosnien, part of the former Yugoslovia. She is occupied rasing their two daughters. Zorica has now naturalized as an American citizen. Alex and Zorica's children are:
1. Tiffany (11-Apr-1994) born in Tokyo, Japan, and
2. Christina Catherina (23-Nov-2000).
born in Heidelberg, Germany.
3. Alex has a son from a former relationship,
Sean Ryan (25-Jan-1990) born in Conroe, Texas, who
resides with his mother near Tampa, Florida.
Sean spends a few weeks each year with his grandparents in Fort
Myers, Florida.
Tiffany is an honor roll student who has an active circle of friends. She recently pledged for the Junior Honor Society. She follows her father and grandfather by participating in a bowling league. She loves her new dog (Pomeranian) and her Game Boy-Advance.
Christina loves to chat on the telephone. She attended German kindergarten in 2005-2006. She loves her big sister!
