A martial artist's successful keys in a fight

Part one

By: Mehran Movallali

What are the successful factors for a martial artist in fighting indeed? The one who has powerful and quick kicks strikes? Or the one who can beat his opponent with heavy punches? Or the one who can apply grappling and throwing techniques? The author of this article who has been involving in martial arts for many years, is trying to explain a martial artist's successful keys in fighting.
There are many factors to be a winner in a fight, but some of them are more important than others as follows:

1)Relaxation:the martial artist who can relax himself correctly, is able to control easily his mind nonesense thoughts and then he will have a calm mind. It means: "when body is relaxed, then mind is relaxed too". When a martial artist is relaxed, he can use his best all techniques in Fights. Besides, when mind and body are relaxed, energies of theirs won't waste and thus, the martial artist will have more energy to Fight and use his techniques.
A martial artist can relax himself in two ways:
A)Stable relaxation:This method can be done in seated or often lied states and one can relax his body and get to calmness by self-suggestion and imagining calmful images.
B)Moving relaxation:After one learned stable method, he can train moving relaxation that is more effective. Moving relaxation includes: Soft movements of "Tai chi" and "chi kung".
By reason of these movements should be done: Softly, slowly, fluidly and with breathing coordination, the martial artist's all muscles will be relaxed in moving and then he will get mental calmness extremely.
Because of improving one's martial abilities both in fighting and training, the most martial arts (Even boxing) are nowadays practising "Tai Chi" and "Chi Kung" as their martial art complementary.

2)Improving defensive techniques:Unfortunately the most martial arts in the world emphasis on offensive techniques more than defensive ones. Offensive techniques by reason of protect you against opponent's strikes that maybe will end to violent injuries even death, are much more important than offensive ones in a fight.
You can be turned into an offensive fighter under a master at least within 6 months, but if you want to be a defensive fighter who can defend your apponent's quick and sudden strikes, you must train under an experienced master for many years. Even the most famous martial champs have the fault in fights.
Wing chun Kung Fu is the best martial art in defense that has unique defensive techniques are very much useful in real fights. When you improve your defensive abilities through much training, then your offensive abilities will be improved naturally. However, if you want to emphasis on offensive techniques a lot your defensive abilities won't be improved.

3)Tighten of body:Body tightening against opponent's strikes is one of the most important principles in the martial arts. As much as you had improved defensive techniques, there is still a possible you will be beaten one or two blows in the fight, of course it's a normal thing. Or when you want to defend opponent's techniques, you should have tighten your arms. So, body thghtening in martial arts divided into 3 categories:
A)Muscles tighteninig:In this stage, the martial artist should tighten gradually his muscles both internally and externally through particular exercises.
B)Tightening of arms and legs bones:By reason of martial artists arms and legs bones impact repeatedly each other both in defending and attacking, in fight and train, so a martial artist should tighten his arms and legs bones.
For instance: If a martial artist's forearm bone has not been tightened, it's possible when he wants to block his opponent's explosive attack with his forearm in a fight, because of his forearm aches much, he won't to continue fighting. So this stage is very important.
C)Destroying face sensitivity:It's very important in fighting. For, if your face is beaten, you'll be stupefied. And when a martial artist is stupefied, it's the best situation for his opponent to attack him continuously.
When a martial artist is stupefied because of his face is beaten he won't react anymore. Therefore, sensitivity of some parts of the face must be destroyed. This should be done cautiously and little by little and should be careful its vital points not to be hurt such as: Nose or eyes.
Note that these 3 stages must be done under an experienced master within many years. Of course sensitivity of body vital points such as: testicles, eyes, nose and ... can't be destroyed at all, and the only way to protect them, is improving one's defensive abilities.
