You may want to tell the world about your NDE, or you may want to think about it, possibly for a long time, before trying to say anything. You will probably feel frustrated trying to find words to describe it, and fearful that no one else will understand. Many experiencers find that PMH Atwater's books help them. If your experience was frightening, we have specialized information for you. Or, if you had your experience as a child, we also have specialized information. And, research has shown a number of common after-effects in the experiencer. ...COMMON .PATTERN OF AFTEREFFECTS We have a letter from medical professionals that you can print out (250Kb) and show to your health-care providers, if you choose. IANDS would like to know about your experience. Please consider telling us about it. When you first decide to talk about the experience, choose a person who is a good listener, someone with whom you are comfortable. Should they have difficulty with the idea, reading Moody's Life After Life may help them feel more comfortable with NDEs. If you want to talk with another experiencer or to someone who will not need too many explanations, contact the IANDS office for the name of someone reliable. Or, you can post to our Message Board or to others that are available on the web, including a netnews group and a mailing list. If you had revelations that you feel would be of interest to society as a whole, you can post them on our Revelations Registry. Our section on frightening near-death experiences has more suggestions for finding someone to listen and help you make sense of your experience. Consider joining IANDS. We can furnish you a list of other experiencers who wish to network with people such as yourself. We have various publications available to keep you informed and in touch with other experiencers, and a conference that can bring you in contact with many experiencers at the same time. And, we need your support so that we can continue to spread the word to other experiencers as well as care-givers and researchers. In any event, IANDS would like to know about your experience. . Perhaps you will find that your old life-style doesn't seem right any more. You may be surprised at how many people in your community already feel the same way; and that there are resources available locally for you if you just look hard enough--and it may not be all that hard. Through IANDS, some communities have support groups of near-death experiencers who are able to be both supportive and well informed. Perhaps some of the contacts suggested in our section on frightening near-death experiences will know of local resources. At the least, many experiencers find that some 12-step groups (which are in a great many places) have a similar outlook. There are such groups even for people who don't have a chemical dependency.
