CAMDEN

Camden is situated at the southwesternmost point of Metropolitan Sydney. This was chosen as one of the suburbs to be surveyed because the ethnic component of its population was very small. The percentage of people speaking only English at home is very high (91.31 %). The following table and graph compare the population of the five major ethnic languages spoken at home with those speaking only English.

The findings:
All of the fifty shops in my survey in Camden displayed only English. This reflects the small ethnic composition of the suburb’s population. Only one of the fifty shops hinted any ethnicity — a pub that called itself an Irish Pub. After conducting my survey, I spotted two Chinese restaurants displaying the ethnic language in the suburb. However, Chinese restaurants are extremely common in towns and cities all over Australia.
