Day 3: Sunday 6th August: The day of Shore Leave and the inevitable, The Irish Bar! The day satrs at 07:00 with breakfast, followed by the daiy briefing with Nick, the first mate at 08:50. He tells us that there will be shoreleave today both that afternoon and that evening. Great! We do some simple training and Main watch is shown its close tacking stations. Today is also the first time we climb any of the riggin, we go up and over. We climb up the Starboard rig into the crows nest and then down the port side back onto the deck. It's and experience not everybody enjoyed as much as I did. Then to everybody's surprise we're told we're doing a happy hour, we have to clean the ship before we can go on shoreleave. Main Watch has to scrub the decks. Then once we're finished we've got shoreleave, but because the tall ships are in port Flensburg is absolutely heaving, it takes us neary 2 hours to get to the main street. But anyway it's a nice enough walk and we arrive back in time for the 17:00hrs end of shoreleave. There are some very nice ships including a very big Mexican Ship, I can't remeber the name, but heres a photo. Mexican Ship A Nice Boat Have some dinner then it's time for the off again, however tonight I'm on watch at 21:00-22:00hrs, so me and Chris go for a walk and use the free phones, then we do our hour on watch before heading off to the Irsih Bar! We get there in time to join in most of the fun and games including the giving out of Roses between crew. Jenny And Sarah in the Irsih Bar There are a couple more photos to go here but I need to rescan them. Finally on The way back to the ship we had a bit of a shout song. We were extremely loud and it was at this point that I decided that the ship with the fariy lights I could only just see would make a good photograph so here it is: Mexican Ship in the Dark
