Singapore is an tropical island. If you look at the world map, you'll probably have a hard time locating Singapore because she's just a dot in the map. She's one degree(about 87 miles) north of the equator, at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, linked to Malaysia by causeway. At Asia's crossroads with the Indonesian islands to the south, Thailand and the Philippines to the north.
She was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1918 and have been a British colony since then until 1968 when she gained independence. Yes. Singapore is a small and young country. However, she has developed tremenously. In 1995, she gained the status of a developed country.
Singapore is a 'fine' country. You will probably hear Singaporeans telling you that. What they are refering to is the hefty fines you'll get when you smoke in the lift or in the bus, littering in public places, urinating in the lifts, splitting in public places, throwing a TV out of your 12-storeys flat.... the list just goes on and on.
Dining in Singapore is a gastronomic experience. Choices are bewildering, ranging widely from inexpensive local dishes (Chinese, Malay, Indian and Nonya) found at food courts/hawker centers to sophisticated restaurants serving international cuisine.
The unemplyment rate is kept very low. It's much easier to get a job here compared to UK or Australia. She also enjoys an annual growth of at least 5%.
