Happy Halloween all. I even had trick-or-treaters come to my dorm room tonight. I would have told them to get lost, but I had some candy left in front of my door the other day and I didn't want it so I gave it away. Just so everyone knows, the charitable behavior will most likely not continue beyond the immediate future.
I watched ESPN this afternoon and had to agree with them that the NFL needs to institute a rule so that fan interruption of a live play results in a penalty for the home team. For any of you who may not have seen the play in question, the video is available on several websites. I've even seen it edited to have the Burger King king in it. The stoppage clearly shifted the momentum from the Packers back to the Bengals. I am not going to say the Packers would have won without the interference, but it sure didn't help. If any of you watched the Sunday night game this week of the Patriots and the Bills, you were treated to a Tedy Bruschi love-fest by the network. During the fourth quarter, there were two game altering sack-fumbles. During these important plays, what did viewers see? The play live and multiple replays? No, we saw the play in a small corner screen as they had the sideline reporter tell us all about Bruschi and a mention that a fumble occurred after a few plays were run by the other team. I almost forgave them when it happened the first time, but then they had another interview of Patriots owner Robert Kraft during another crucial fumble. Same crap again. I thought to myself, “Myself, it's the fourth quarter of a game that decides first place in the AFC East and they can't stop talking about Tedy Bruschi long enough to tell us about the game that was the reason all of the viewers are watching?!?!?!?” Tony, Culpepper is available now if you still want him. All of that complaining and you got the best break possible. Thursday night was fun down at King Pin Lanes. Tony, now you know not to wear a Bears hat into Packer country again. At least not when you are going to be completely surrounded by drunks. Saturday night I went to a wedding for the second of what will be three consecutive weeks. It was fun, but not as good as McCarty's wedding the week before. As a final note, what's with Paul Edinger? He nails a career long 56 yard FG against the Packers to win the game and misses FOUR kicks the week before and the week after he badly shanks a 33 yarder. 10/25/2005 Man I hate the Vikings. I got a call from the Packers today. They want me to recruit a few friends to fill in at running back and wide receiver for the rest of the season. I asked if it was OK to bring a rake along and they had no objections so I guess Tony can go too. I went to a wedding on Saturday night. It was fun. Now if those last two sentences aren't the most stimulating writing ever, I don't know what is. The Packers picked up Taco Wallace the wide receiver today. I guess I was just ahead of the times when I drafted him for my fantasy team before the start of the season. How can you not root for a guy named Taco? This is pathetic, I only wrote a little last week, and I am out of ideas already tonight. I am such a slacker. 10/17/2005 The Colts need some points, and they need them now. Down 17-0 to the Rams at home? This can't be right. I guess we all wondered how good the Rams could be without Mike Martz screwing up in game decisions. I hate to criticize the guy since he is fighting an infection near his heart that is fairly serious, but it looks to be the truth. The Badgers got pretty lucky to beat Minnesota on Saturday. Trailing by 3 with 38 seconds left, Minnesota had to punt from their own 15 yard line. Long story short, the Badgers block the punt and recover for a touchdown after the punter botches the snap. My question is why didn't the Gophers give up an intentional safety after wasting as much time as possible. The situation would have been more favorable for them after giving up the deuce because they then free kick from the 30 instead of a rushed kick from inside the 10. I thought the Patriots showed us all how to use the intentional safety a few years back while playing in Denver, but I guess Minnesota missed that game. Uh-oh Rams, interception by the Colts and Bulger is hurt for the Rams......Do I sense a shift in momentum? This is a pretty short update, but maybe I'll add mor later this week. 10/11/2005 The Yankees are eliminated. The Red Sox are eliminated. What teams are Fox planning to promote through the remainder of the playoffs? Personally, I think the playoffs are better this way, but try to explain that to network executives. I went to OCB last Saturday night with Tony and Dan. I ate too much before Tony told a story. We then decided to head to Wal-Mart. On the way we drove past Best Buy and decided to take the “Best Buy Challenge”. For those of you who don't know, the challenge is to get to the back wall of Best Buy and back out without a salesperson asking you if you need help. It is darn near impossible to do, especially since the store has twice as many workers as shoppers at any given time. I found a good place to find team names at the Football Outsiders Loser League. It has a whole mess of teams each name crazier than the last. Check it out here. My favorites are: Ice Cold Bruschi, Steaming Pile of Krenzel, Rode Hard & Put Away Wet, Craig Whelihan Memorial All-Stars, Prisoners of Gravity, The Drunken Amish Here it is. The great song about the best pseudonym ever (Even better than Ima Pseudonym), Ron Mexico. I'm Ron Mexico (A parody of I've Got Mexico by Eddy Raven) I just got tired of that burnin' pain. There's a clinic downtown on Main. I bet you never thought I'd really go. I'd say my name was Ron Mexico. I've even learned to treat the symptoms some. Fools the girls only if they're dumb. You wouldn't know me with this fake goatee. I become Ron Mexico. I'm breaking out and it's burnin' good. Valtrex don't do what they said it would. I should have said a long time ago, I'm not Vick, I'm Ron Mexico. Through it all, nothing's really changed. No matter what, honey that's a shame. I don't love you that's the way it goes. Got herpes from Ron Mexico. I'm breaking out and it's burnin' good. Valtrex don't do what they said it would. I should have said a long time ago I'm not Vick, I'm Ron Mexico. 10/10/2005 Well, I took a week off from updates since I was busy last week, and I heard about it from two people. I'm impressed, I thought Tony was the only one who actually read it anymore. I usually type my updates while I am sitting at my desk watching Monday Night Football, but last week I was out watching the Packers lose so I couldn't do it then. What a win it was for the Packers this week though. Too bad they only get to play the Saints once this year. Aaron Brooks is a human turnover machine. I'll have more tomorrow as I continue to work on a song parody involving our good friend Ron. Hopefully I'll have it done tomorrow. 9/26/2005 The Brewers redeemed themselves this week by taking 2 of 3 from both the Cubs and the Cardinals. They are currently winning 5-3 over Cincinnati. Go Brewers! Rodney Harrison tore up his knee and is out for the season for the Patriots. Chad Pennington tore his rotator cuff....again. He had the same injury last year so I am starting to see a pattern. Although the only difference between a healthy Pennington and an injured Pennington is how far downfield the interception is. Anyways, I’m jumping on the Bears bandwagon, I can’t wait to watch it burst into flames as Kyle Orton drives it off a bridge........These words were posted by me a little over a week ago on the guestbook page. I guess I may have been on to something as Orton threw 5 interceptions this past week against Cincinnati. The same aliens that TMQ supposed brought and took from us the one known as Kurt Warner, may have taken Peyton Manning. Seriously, 2 touchdowns in three games?!?!?! I should have been playing Gus Frerotte the whole year so far. I just know the first time I do Manning will throw 6 TD's and Frerotte will throw 6 TD's to the opposition. On Friday I went to Milwaukee to tour METSO Minerals for my senior design project. We left from Platteville in the morning and didn't return until after 7:30 P.M. After returning, I had to turn back around and head home. I must have spent 9 hours in a car that day......fun, fun. On Saturday night I went out to eat with my parents at Woody's Steakhouse in Kewaskum. Afterwards I headed down to King Pin for a birthday party and a bachelor party. I bowled a couple games and had a few beers. I also saw at least 3 or 4 glasses dropped on the floor and broken. Yeah, there were a few people that had too many. After getting home at the somewhat reasonable time of 1:00 A.M., I just had to turn on the television. I flipped on Nick @ Nite and found the Jeff Foxworthy Show. I was somewhat stunned to see Bill Engval asa cast member. I watched that show all the time back in the day and never noticed that. That is all for this week. 9/19/2005 The Packers lost...again. The Brewers were swept by the Astros. That was a productive weekend for Wisconsin teams. The Brewers could have moved very close to the wildcard in the National League with even a 2-1 series win, but they stunk it up against a very good Houston team that was trying to stay in the lead for that same wildcard. Now they need a strong finish to reach the mystical .500 record. Let's get some runs!!! I am currently watching two football games, typing an update, and listening to music. Who says men can't multitask. Well, I guess I am not doing any one thing well, everything half-assed....or, I guess in this case, quarter-assed. In regard to the Packer loss, at least the Vikings lost worse. When things get this bad, look to the Vikes and things look better. The "experts" picked the Vikings to be contenders this year, but the way it looks now, the only thing they will contend for is the #1 pick in next year's draft. They have had half of their possessions end in a turnover through two games. I'm not sure, but that could be a record. Culpepper is just 3 picks shy of his total for last season. There is some good news for Viking fans however, Mike Tice just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico. Culpepper did have three long completions to Deltha O'Neal, the only problem was O'Neal isn't on Minnesota. Tony, I bet Andy will let you have Culpepper now. What was that? Oh, it was just Darren Sharper getting burned for another Chad Johnson touchdown. Wow did my fantasy team suck this week. At QB Peyton Manning got me a big goose-egg. That's right, ZERO points. He did do better than Jamal Lewis did for me though. Lewis managed (-1) with a great day against Tennessee that gave up 200 yards to Pittsburgh the previous week. Lewis had 10 carries for 9 yards with a long of 13 yards. Tennessee for those interested lined up a defense consisting mostly of guys who happened to be on the team because their bus broke down outside the Titans training camp in the small town of salary cap hell. I also was fortunate enough to play Tommy's team where Mcnabb had enough points by himself to beat my team. What luck I have. 9/12/2005 Two update in two days, have I gone mad? No, but I now have homework to put off so things will start to move along a little more swiftly here. I added a new section tonight with my weekly top 10 songs and comments about each. View it here. Unfortunately, this new feature means an end of the "Random Song Lyrics" that I know you all have grown to love. I would keep providing the lyrics, but most of my comments will involve lyrics and I don't want to anyone to suffer from overload. Andy provided me with a link to some nice descriptions of engineers. My comments about each trait is in italics. The following are charcteristics of the typical engineer: FRUGALITY Engineers are notoriously frugal. This is not because of cheapness or mean spirit; it is simply because every spending situation is simply a problem in optimization, that is, "How can I escape this situation while retaining the greatest amount of cash?" See, I'm not cheap. I'm just stuck trying to solve engineering problems when there isn't one to be solved. DATING AND SOCIAL LIFE Dating is never easy for engineers. A normal person will employ various indirect and duplicitous methods to create a false impression of attractiveness. Engineers are incapable of placing appearance above function. Is this a perfect description of me or am I going crazy? Fortunately, engineers have an ace in the hole. They are widely recognized as superior marriage material: intelligent, dependable, employed, honest, and handy around the house. While it's true that many normal people would prefer not to date an engineer, most normal people harbor an intense desire to mate with them, thus producing engineer-like children who will have high-paying jobs long before they start dating. Wow, me agian. This is almost getting spooky. Male engineers reach their peak of physical attractiveness later than normal men, becoming irresistible erotic dynamos in their mid thirties to late forties. Just look at these examples of irresistible men in technical professions: Bill Gates. MacGyver. Etcetera. Female engineers become irresistible to male engineers at the age of consent and remain that way until, oh, about their clinical death. FASHION AND APPEARANCE Clothes are the lowest priority for an engineer, assuming the basic thresholds for temperature and decency have been satisfied. If no appendages are freezing or sticking together, and if no private parts or mammary glands are swinging around in plain view, then the objective of clothing has been met. Anything else is a waste. Finally, someone gets it right. I've been dressing myself for darn near 20 years and I still haven't the slightest idea if any of my clothes "go together" or "match". It's all about comfort. ENGINEERS AND SOCIAL SKILLS Engineers have different objectives when it comes to social interaction. "Normal" people expect to accomplish several unrealistic things from social interaction: 1 Stimulating and thought-provoking conversation Like that could ever happen. 2. Important social contacts 3. A feeling of connectedness with other humans Who needs these two? In contrast to "normal" people, engineers have rational objectives for social interactions: 1. Get it over with as soon as possible. Why do you think engineers invented online shopping, automated checkouts, and email. 2. Avoid getting invited to something unpleasant. 3. Demonstrate mental superiority and mastery of all subjects. This should be easy to do since it is so obvious, but all the stupid people out there just can't accept it. Most non-engineers are wrong all the time always screw things up. The best solution: Do everything yourself and avoid teamwork if at all possible. Well, that is all for today. Be sure to check out my new section if you haven't already. 9/11/2005 Well, that was a rough four months, huh? You all had to go that whole time without any of my informative and/or humorus updates. I have one below that was typed up in early July, but I was too lazy to post. If anyone is upset with this delay, I will gladly offer a full refund of the purchase price of $0.00. With interest, I might give you a penny if I feel generous, so I wouldn't count on that. I watched the Packer game tonight, and was suprised by how well the defense played. Unfortunately, that may have had more to do with the inept Detroit offense than quality play by the Green Bay defense. Additionally, I see no reason to play Ahmad Carroll...ever. They should just cut him now and hope he signs with Minnesota. 5 free first downs in each game must be nice for the opposing team every week. 7/2/2005 Well after a wait of a month and a half, I figured I had better take the time to write an update. So far I haven't done anything too exciting this summer. The highlight thus far has been the weekly trek to King Pin for my Monday night bowling league. Last Monday, June 27, I had a slightly embarrassing moment when I accidentally sent my ball over the lane divider and down the next lane over. I was trying to duplicate a trick shot by Tony where he threw the ball behind his back. The ball stuck to my hand a little, bounced on my lane once and went over to the other lane. If I would have gotten a strike on the other lane it would have been really cool, but unfortunately I only got a gutter. I am pretty sure that counts as a zero. When I was bowling that same night and who did I bowl against but Mark Bong. I hadn't seen him for about 4 years. He kept buying me drinks the whole night. I don't know if he was just being nice or if he was as drunk as he looked, but I felt guilty accepting over and over again. I got him one back a time or two, but if everyone else bought him as many as he got for them, he would be drinking for about 6 hours straight to get it all down. Hey Ty, I saw you working at Fleet Farm in FDL on Wednesday. Would have came over to say hi, but I was in a hurry as I was there after I should have been home. |
