News from the Principal's Desk!

Dear Brookview Families:

As 2002 comes to a close and the new year begins, the staff and students of our school reflect upon all the things for which we are grateful.  Our beautiful new school building and our supportive families and community certainly top the list.

This month we will be “Ringing-Out the Old and Ringing-In the New” as we open our new Brookview School. The first day of classes in our new building is scheduled for Monday, January 13!  The staff has been diligently packing over the past months to get ready for our move.  A special thanks is extended to Ms. Linda Sorbo, our school custodian, who has dedicated endless hours in the organization and preparation for the move.

A grand celebration is scheduled on January 16 for all of the children, families, community, and staff!  We will bid farewell to our old building at 2:15 p.m. with a ceremony in our old school, and we will officially open our new building that evening at 6:30 p.m.  Our evening opening event will feature a ribbon cutting, student performance of our new Brookview song, tour, and refreshments.  We hope that all of our families will be able to join us for the festivities as we celebrate a significant event in the history of our school and our community.

As we begin a new year in our new school building, this is the perfect time to re-vitalize routines to support learning at home.  Set aside for time daily to talk your child about his/her day, maintain a set time for completing homework, monitor television viewing, be sure the children get plenty of rest each night, and remember to enjoy reading together daily!

On behalf of our students and staff, I would like to express our appreciation to the West Irondequoit Board of Education and the West Irondequoit community for making a dream become a reality for our children.

Sincerely,

Marie A. Lapple
Principal
