Marcel "Le Maire" Demers
   Marcel Demers, known  as "Le  Maire" (The Mayor) by criminal associates, was born  on March 10, 1957. He  is a founding member of  the Rock Machine's Quebec City chapter  and the  gang's former president.

     As one of  the club's most influential members, Demers, became a  prime target for  the rival Hells  Angels. On November 14, 1996, a masked man fired  at least five bullets  at Demers  as he  was exiting his car outside  a corner store in a Quebec City suburb. The attacker escaped in a car.

     "Le Maire" was almost murdered a second time on June 5, 1999.

He was struck several times in the back  and left arm  as he drove his car down  a street in the Quebec City  suburb of  Beauport. Despite his  injuries, he managed to drive  himself  to Enfant Jesus Hospital  and walk to the emergency department. Hells Angels hangarounds Jean Fradette and Yan Laplante were arrested for the attack.

     On October 15, 2000, Demers  and Rock Machine leader Fred Faucher were expulsed from the
Le Bristo Plus bar on Saint-Jean street in Quebec City. The owner called the police because he didn't want any colors in his establishment.

     225 police officers  were kept busy on December 6, 2000, as they tracked  and  arrested 16 Rock Machine members  and  associated on drug trafficking charges. The ring, ran by  Demers and Quebec City chapter president Fred Faucher, distributed two kilograms of cocaine a month and generated almost $5 million in profits annually.

     Demers, who owns  a home in  Sainte-Brigitte de Laval, pleaded guilty to 17  accusations of drug trafficking and was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
