II. THE PROPHETIC CHRIST

 

6. Ge3.15: 15And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel." [Gal4.4]

7. Ge.22.18: 18And in your seed [Christ] shall all the nations of the earth be blessed and [by Him] bless themselves, because you have heard and obeyed My coice. [Gen12-2-3;13.16;22.18;26.4;28.14; Acts3.25,26; Gal3.16]

8. Ge49.10: 10The scepter or leadership shall not depart from Judah, not the ruler's staff from between his feet, until Shiloh [the Messiah, the Peaceful One] comes to Whom it belongs, and to Him shall be the obedience of the people. [Num24.17; Ps60.7]

9. De18.15: 15The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet (Prophet) from the midst of your brethren like Me [Moses]; to him you shall listen.

10. Ps2:

2 Why do the nations assemble with commotion [uproar and confusion of voices], and why do the people imagine (meditate upon and devise) an empty scheme?

2 The kings of the earth take their places; the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and His Anointed One (the Messiah, the Christ). They say, [Acts4.25-27]

3 "Let us break Their bands [of restraint] asunder and cast Their cords [of control] from us."

4 He Who sits in the heavens laughs; the LORD has them in derision [and in supreme contempt He mocks them].

5 He speaks to them in His deep anger and troubles (terrifies and confounds) them in His displeasure and fury, saying,

6 "Yet have I anointed (installed and placed) My King [firmly] on My holy hill of Zion."

7 I will declare the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, You are My Son; this day [I declare] I have begotten You. [Heb1.5; 3.5,6; 2Pet1.17-18]

8 Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations as Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth as Your possession.

9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like potters' ware." [Rev12.5;19.15]

 

10 Now therefore, O you kings, act wisely; be instructed and warned, O you rulers of the earth.

11 Serve the LORD with reverent awe and worshipful fear; rejoice and be in high spirits with trembling [lest you displease Him] 12kiss the Son [pay homage to Him in purity], lest He be angry and you perish in the way, for soon shall His wrath be kindled.

 

O blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are all those who seek refuge and put their trust in Him!

11. Ps16.10:

10 For You will not abandon me to Sheol (the place of the dead), neither will You suffer Your holy one [Holy One] to see corruption. [Acts13.35] (Mt16.21)

 

12. Ps45.2:

2 You are fairer than the children of men; graciousness is poured upon Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever.

 

13. Ps68.18:

18 You have ascended on high. You have led away captive a train of vanquished foes; You have received gifts of men, yes, of the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell there with them. [Eph4.8]

 

14. Ps68.21:

21 But God will shatter the heads of His enemies, the hairy scalp of such a one as goes on still in his treaspasses and guilty ways.

 

15. Ps110.1:

110The LORD (God) says to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, until I make Your adversaries Your footstool." [Matt26.64; Acts2.34; 1Cor15.25; Col3.1; Heb12.2]

 

16. Ps118.22:

22 Let Israel now say that "His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever."

 

17. Ps132.11:

11 The LORD swore to David in truth; He will not turn back from it: "One of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne." [Ps89.3,4; Luke1.69; Acts2.30,31]

 

18. Is2.4:

4 And He shall judge between the nations and shall decide [disputes] for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation, neither shall they learn war any more. [Mic4.1-3]

 

19. Is7.14: 14Therefore the LORD Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the young woman who is unmarried and a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his nama Immanuel [God with us]. [Isa9.6; Jer31.22; Mic5.3-5; Matt1.22,23]

 

20. Is9.6:

6 For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace. [Isa25.1;40.9-11; Matt28.18; Luke2.11]

 

21. Is11.1:

11And there shall come forth a Shoot out of the stock of Jesse [David's father], and a Branch out of his roots shall grow and bear fruit. [Isa4.2; Matt2.23; Rev5.5;22.16]

 

22. Is28.16:

16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away [in sudden panic]. [Ps118.22; Matt21.42; Acts4.11; Rom9.33; Eph2.20; 1Pet2.4-6]

 

23. Is42.1:

42Behold My Servant, Whom I uphold, My elect in Whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice and right and reveal truth to the nations. [Matt3.16,17]

 

24. Is53:

53Who has believed (trusted in, relied upon, and clung to) our message [of that which was revealed to us]? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been disclosed? [John12.38-41; Rom10.16]

2 For [the Servant of God] grew up before Him like a tender plant, and like a root out of dry ground; He has no form or comeliness [royal, kingly pomp], that we should look at Him, and no beauty that we should desire Him.

3 He was dispised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and exquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was dispised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him. (Ps2.2)

 

4 Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricked, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. [Matt8.17]

5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that woulded] Him we are healed and made whole. (Is53.6,12)

6 All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has made to light upon Him the guilt and iniquity of us all. [1Pet2.24,25]

 

7 He was oppressed, [yet when] He was afflicted, He was submissive and opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth. (Ps38.13,14)

8 By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who among them considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living [stricken to His death] for the transgression of my [Isaiah's] people, to whom the stroke was due?

9 And they assigned Him a grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in His death, although He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth. [Matt27.57-60; 1Pet2.22,23]

 

10 Yet it eas the will of the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief and made Him sick. When You and He make His life an offering for sin [and He has risen from the dead, in time to come], He shall prolong His days, and the will and pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.

11 He shall se [the fruit] of the travail of His soul and be satisfied; by His knowledge of Himself [which He possesses and imparts to others] shall My [uncompromisingly] righteous One, My Servant, justify many and make many righteous (upright and in right standing with God), for He shall bear their iniquities and their guilt [with the consequences, says the LORD].

12 Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great [kings and rulers], and He shall divide the spoil with the mighty, because He poured out His life unto death, and [He let Himself] be regarded as a criminal and be numbered with the transgressors; yet He bore [and took away] the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors (the rebellious). [Luke22.37]

 

25. Is59.16:

16 And He saw that there was no man and wondered that there was no intercessor [no one to intervene on behalf of truth and right]; therefore His own arm brought Him victory, and His own righteousness [having the Spirit without measure] sustained Him. [Isa53.11; Col2.9; 1John2.1,2]

 

26. Is61.1:

61The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound; [Rom10.15]

 

27. Is63.1:

63"Who is this Who comes from Edom, with crimson-stained garments from Bozrah [in Edom]? This One Who is glorious in His apparel, striding triumphantly in the greatness of His might?"

 

"It is I, [the One] Who speaks in righteousness [proclaim vindication], mighty to save!"

 

28. Jer23.5: 5Behold, the days ae coming, says the LORD, when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch (Sprout), and He will reigh as King and do wisely and will execute justice and righteousness in the land.

 

Da9.25: 25Know therefore and understand that form the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem until [the coming of] the Anointed One, a Prince, shall be seven weeks [of years] and sixty-two weeks [of years]; it shall be built again with [city] square and moat, but in troublous times.

 

29. Mi5.2: 2But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, you are litthe to be among the clans of Judah; [yet] out of you shall One come forth for Me Who is to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth have been from of old, from ancient days (eternity). [Gen49.10; Matt2.5-12; John7.42]

 

30. Hag2.7: 7And I will shake all nations and the desire and the precious things of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with aplendor, says the Lord of hosts. [Isa60.5; Matt2.1-12]

 

31. Zec3.8: 8Hear now, O joshua the high priest, you and your colleagues who [usually] sit before you - for they are men who ae a sign or omen [types of what is to come] - for behold, I will bring forth My servant the Branch. [Isa4.2; Jer23.5;33.15; Zech6.12]

 

32. Zec6.12: 12And say to him, Thus says the LORD of hosts: [You, Joshua] behold (look at, keep in sight, watch) the Man [the Messiah] whose name is the Branch, for He shall grow up in His place and He shall build the [true] temple of the LORD. [Isa4.2; Jer23.5;33.15; Zech3.8]

 

33. Zec9.9: 9Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O Daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King comes to you; He is [uncompromisingly] just and having salvation [triumphant and victorious], patient, meek, lowly, and riding on a donkey, upon a colt, the foal of a donkey. [Matt21.5; John12.14,15] (Is62.11)

 

34. Zec11.12: 12And I said to them, "If it seems just and right to you, give me my wages; but if not, withhold them. So they weighed out for my price thirty pieces of silver." (Zec11.13)

 

35. Zec12.10: 10And I will pour out upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace or unmerited favor and supplication. And they shall look [earnestly] upon Me Whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him as one who is in bitterness for his firstborn. [John19.37; Rev1.7]

 

36. Zec13.7:

7 "Awake, O sword, against My shepherd and against the man who is My associate," says the LORD of hosts. Smite the shepherd and the shhep [of the flock] shall be scattered, and I will turn back My hand and stretch it out again upon the little ones [of the flock]. [Matt26.31,32]

 

37. Mal3.1: 3Behold, I send My meseenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me. And the LORD [the Messiah], Whom you seek will suddenly come to His temple; the Messenger or Angel of the covenant Whom you desire, behold, He shall come, says the LORD of hosts. [Matt11.10; Luke1.13-17,76]
