The Casting

We placed our tiki torches around us in the sand.  We had selected a place on the beach close to the water.  We lit our fire in an iron pot with driftwood collected on the beach.

I walked around the edge of the circle with  white sage wand and smudged the perimeter and then gave it to each woman to smudge as each was helping to prepare our sacred space.

We sat down on our blankets within our torches and enclosed space and said around the Circle …

"I am your sister, I give you my hand. Together we form a strong circle."

We began clapping and spontaneously called in attributes of the elements, maintaining a rhythm as we called out loud form Air, Fire, Water, Earth, and Spirit.

The following is basically what I shared with all as we sat in our circle.

This Circle is closed to the outside world and we are now between the worlds.  We consecrate this space with Her Sacred name,  Sunna……

I give to all of you a symbol of this Moon’s energy.  On it is    l Laguz which represents Water – the source of life. The Old Norse for the rune means Asphodel or daffodil, which were said to spring up where Sunna’s feet passed. Daffodil – certainly an appropriate flower to spring up where the Sun goddess’s feet touch the Earth!  Did you know that finding the first daffodil of the season insures a year blessed with wealth and gold?

As the symbol of the sacred waters of life – use her symbol when feeling in need of renewal – visit Her source – Her life giving waters – use Laguz to bring her quickening energy to your projects.

One of the reasons I chose this as the symbol of this moon, is not only that this is the time of year when we are beginning to see the daffodil flowers bursting out of the Earth, but also to honor the name that came to me in a moment of manifestation for this growing circle of women – Witches By The Sea – Laguz – an appropriate choice – for water witches – women of the Goddess!  Blessed Be!

And now, why is this called the Milk Moon?  This is a time when you still cling close to the Mother.  It can be a fierce time and there often seems much to be afraid of.  You still draw close to Her, as you need Her sustenance.  You are as the newborn babe and who suckles at Her breast.  The day will come that you will venture out and leave Her side and step out into the world, but in this time, which is still Her dark time, we must gather all the strength She offers us.  Suckle well, as Her milk will give you all that you need.

And of course, there are all forms of nurturing – nourishment – that we as women offer the world.

Times when we nurture – times when we are nurtured – let us talk about what nurturing is to us during this season of the Mother’s quickening….

Sing “Mother I Feel You”

Mother I feel you under my feet.

Mother I feel your heartbeat.

Mother I feel you under my feet.

Mother I feel your heartbeat.

Hey ya hay ya ha ya hay ya hay ya hay ay Ho

Hey ya hay ya ha ya hay ya hay ya hay ay Ho

Hey ya hay ya ha ya hay ya hay ya hay ay Ho

Hey ya hay ya ha ya hay ya hay ya hay ay Ho

(Repeat)

All share of what nurturing is going on in their lives at this moment.  After all had shared we sang many songs, all blended into each other.  We beat on rocks, hitting sticks together, and clapping.

Distribution of flowers for offering to Sea and Mother Pacifica.  As all walk to shore, sing “Mother I Feel You”
