Meditation Meditation is important to any Wiccan or Witch. Meditation is a way to attune oneself with the universe. It is a way to relax, think and achieve a spiritual balance with nature. Learning to relax and free the mind from everyday thoughts is essential to the practice of witchcraft. Meditation should be done everyday, even if it is only a short meditation (although sometimes it is very difficult to find the time everyday.) A quite place with no interruptions is the best place to meditate. Some people say that sitting is best, and others say that laying down is best. If you are tired a sitting position may be best as you will be less prone to falling asleep. When sitting it would be best to be sitting in a chair with your feet on the floor, this ensures an open body so energies may flow more freely. A point should be made that meditation is not exactly the same thing as visualisation. A visualisation is also important to Wiccans and Witches and more can be read in the visualisation section. A meditation clears the mind of all everyday thought; it takes the mind to a different state. Some achieve this state through visualising in a meditation; others simply focus on one thought such as breathing. One should always start a meditation with long deep breaths. A good indicator for breathing is to breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 2 counts, breathe out for 4 counts and then hold for 2 counts before repeating. There are also many techniques for relaxing the body but one you may find the most helpful involves tensing and then releasing all your muscles, starting with your feet and working all the way up your body. Remember that the more you practice meditation the easier it will become. After a lot of practice you may fall into meditation without any effort at all!
