Visualisation

The importance of meditation has been stated in the previous link, however visualisation is equally important. Some people like to skip to process of practising these two techniques everyday. However this is a disadvantage to yourself! Just think of how much Wiccans and Witches use their visualisation skills in their practices. There are used for casting circle, rituals, spells any many other practices. Without developing strength in these skills it would be hard to become proficient at the practice of witchcraft.

As with meditation it is a good idea to do small amounts of visualisation everyday. Before starting a visualisation make sure you are relaxed and focused, try the deep breathing detailed in the meditation section. Some people can see visualisations more vividly than others. Some can see and sense the images in their heads, while others can see them as a 3-D movie playing behind their eyelids. Not being able to see a full 3-D movie doesn’t mean you are not visualising, though a more vivid image may come with practice.

Practice in visualisation doesn’t need to be any longer than 10 minutes per day. It is much better to be a few minutes everyday than an hours worth every fortnight. Start by visualising easy things like 2-D shapes. You can then try changing the colour of the shape and the colour of the background. Then you can make these images 3-D and see them from above, below, all sides and from inside.

After you have mastered shapes try things like fruit, and imagine their taste and texture as well as their look. Be warned that if you are good at visualisations trying to think of the taste of a lemon might make your mouth water from the sourness!

Visualisations can also be guided or free form stories, or journeys. Below is a visualisation/ meditation that should leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Visualisation One
Imagine yourself floating through a white light. The light becomes brighter and stronger, and takes on a silvery blue colour. Eventually the light turns into a mist and you can see a place before you. It is a beautiful place full of trees, grass, flowers and a lovely waterfall. You walk among the trees, seeing their colour, their leaves, feeling their bark and attuning with their energies. You lie on the grass and feel yourself connecting with the earth. Watch the flowers when you get up off the grass. See them bloom and marvel at the brilliant colours. Finally you reach the waterfall. It is a beautiful waterfall, gently cascading down a rock race and falling into a small river. You wade through the river and reach the waterfall. Spray from the water touches your skin and you can feel the coolness of the water. You stand under the waterfall and feel the water run over you. It cleanses you and rids you of any worries you have. Stay under the waterfall until you no longer have any worries, and are just completely happy to be standing under the cool water in tune with the earth. When this is achieved you way walk back out of the river. Then look at all the beauty that is in this place. Slowly you see a mist start to gather and you are back in the light again. Float in the light and find yourself becoming still but relaxed. The light pulls into your body so that you may call it at any time to be taken to your place. End the meditation, open your eyes and be relaxed.
