The Astronomer..........................

Daryl Schrader is a professor of astronomy and mathematics at St. Petersburg College and has taught astronomy at the at the University of South Florida for the past thirty years.

He holds degrees in mathematics, astronomy and physics from the University of South Florida. Early in his career he was elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and Fellow of the Interplanetary Society.

Well known for his many major media presentations, Professor Schrader has coordinated the largest public observing of Halley's Comet in the northern hemisphere with nearly 20,000 attendees. He is also known for his innovation in teaching astronomy by the use of dynamic lecturing techniques, telescopes, research reports, new technology and the use of various observatory - planetarium complexes. Throughout his career he has given hundreds of lectures to different groups , organized courses and workshops for teacher education. Professor Schrader has written the popular monthly astronomy column for the St. Petersburg Times since 1990. In addition he has co-authored the book America's Planetariums with R.L. Beck.

Selected Community Service Projects

Lecture on the collision of Comet Shoemaker-Levy with Jupiter at USF, St. Pete., as part of the Bayboro Lyceum Series Judged various annual State Science and Engineering fairs. Judged various papers for the Florida Junior Academy of Sciences.
Presented the Voyager Neptune Watch for USF. Presented the Mars Watch for St. Petersburg Junior College. Coordinated the Planet Watch for the University of South Florida .
Coordinated the Halley Comet Watch at the St. Petersburg Pier. Provided over 200 lectures to school groups, organizations and the public. Astronomer for the Science Center of Pinellas County.
Coordinated Astronomy Day activities in the Tampa Bay area for over eight years. These events have introduced the sciences to over ten thousand children and adults Frequently interviewed by television, radio and news papers. Coordinated the Einstein Centennial Exhibit at St. Petersburg Junior College.
