Practice Makes Perfect

During all of dinner the singing went on upstairs, and no one said a word. Everyone knew that the Christmas concert means a lot to Callie. She has been practicing her song for the concert since last week. It will be her first solo performance in front of the whole school. Callie Smith is a student of Bayport High. Currently in grade ten, she had been in the school's choir since grade eight. A shy individual by nature, Callie is not the type to try out for anything. However, at the persistent urging of her mother, Cathy and her sister, Daisy, Callie had decided to try out for the "solo part of a song" for the upcoming Christmas concert. Needless to say, she got the part. Now, with the concert coming up in two days, Callie is spending most of her time preparing for the concert. "Maybe I should talk to her," Daisy wondered out loud. "Yes, I think that's a very good idea," said Cathy. "Tell her to calm down and take a rest, " John, the father advised, "she's been singing for an hour." "Yeah, " interject Daniel, the brother, "she's going to drive me crazy if she doesn't stop soon."

Knock, knock. "Who's there?" asked Callie. "It's me, Daisy" replied the sister, "Can I come in?" "Sure, the door's unlocked." "Well, dad said to take a rest," said Daisy as she sat down on the bed. "Guess I'm annoying everyone, " sighed Callie. "No, it's fine," Daisy replied quickly, "it's just that you've been practicing for an hour now. Aren't you the least bit tired?" "I guess," admitted Callie, "but I'm also very scared. I've never done anything like this before. What if I forget my verses, or what if I ..." "Stop, " Daisy interrupted, "You are only making it worse. Sure, those things can happen, but why think about things you can't control. As long as you know that you have given your best, just let nature take its course. Everything will be fine. I'm sure you'll be great." "Thanks," Callie replied gratefully, "what'll I do without you." "Well, you'll have the bathroom all to yourself," Daisy winked as she stood up and head towards the door, "Good night, little sister." "Good night, big sister," Callie yawned.

Applause, Applause. "Thank you all for attending. I hope you find the concert enjoyable. Have a good night." announced Mr. Lee, the school's music teacher. "See, I was right, you were great, " exclaimed Daisy as she gave her little sister a hug. "I guess all that practice paid off, " Callie calmly said. "Well, like the saying goes, "Practice makes perfect", " respond Daisy.
