Introduction

This lesson was developed in the course Teaching with WebQuests, a course offered by the Teacher Education Institute and taught by June Dodge. The computer skills necessary to complete this course were acquired from Nancy Zeleniack, instructor at Wallenpaupack Area High School, and Cheridy Jollie, Software Engineer.

I believe there is a need to make students aware of their environment and the stresses housing can put on it. With more and more people building their own homes, land and natural resources are in demand and short supply.

Keeping these things in mind the students will design a house plan that meets EPA energy usage standards, uses at least one kind of renewable energy either as a primary or secondary heating source, has as little wasted space as possible (maximize living area), and incorporates recycled materials in some way.
