Will Piovano's Musings
Thoughts on life, writing and the weirdest ideas...
February 15, 2007
Another long pause. Personal life has taken its toll on productivity, but as of today I intend to get back on track with afterburners. I don't feel too guilty about the absence, Carey and Martin and co. seem to update barely once a month. But I don't want to take on that habit...

Anywho. Work has gone by mainly as revision and editing lately. With the end of "Escapism" (yet another turn in the right direction, imo) and the returned correction of "The Addict", all my recent stories have undergone alphabetic lipo-suction. Lean and mean they are now, and I'm quite happy of their state. As such, a new wave on submissions has gone in. Most of them are hopeful casts, but Escapism might have a shot at a decent position.

Some things, such as narrative 'tightness', can only  be reworked with massive cuts and rewrites. I prefer to move on to new work. Most of my good ideas these days tend to hail from the sf side of me. Strange, since fantasy is after all my main passion. I just think that I'm aiming for the sinister and strange, and that's harder to do with fantasy. I made the attempt with "The Blood of Castalsara" (a good attempt, all set aside) but it ended up far more light-hearted than I inteded. The comic relief given by the Gilnay character removed much of the drama I needed, and the ending spiraled slightly into melodrama, due also to the light-heartedness of the beginning of the tale.

Currently under the pen is "One of a Kind", working title of the darkest story to come out of my twisted mind so far. The next I really want to be fantasy, though, so I'm crafting some interesting stuff.

The multi-viewpoint novella is always on my mind, but I really want to have something published first. Come to think of it, I could try my multi-1st PPOV with a short story. Just hit me now...

Thing is that most of my obscure stories are stark images on a dark blurry background. With a fantasy narrative, it's often more difficult to do so. Less mainstream, perhaps; imitation makes easy.

That's it for now.

Ciao!

Any chance of being able to read a copy of any of these written pieces?
Maybe online?
