Will Piovano's Musings
Thoughts on life, writing and the weirdest ideas...
August 9, 2007
Very late, so it's going to be a short one. Just finished hammering away at a Kimishtal chapter. Syzygy (the next of a long line of working titles, that-which-was-Driftworlds) is turning out nicely, very nicely indeed. There was a period when I was seriously doubting it, wondering whether I had to sharpen the pen a bit more on short stories, or get back to polishing The Fifth Season where all the hard work had already been put. But as more and more pours into it, I'm growing convinced of the quality.

Some reading on gnosticism twisted my plot to new, better shapes (new shapes are always better). I'm liking it. I want something different, something that stands out from all the rest. My own contribution to the genre. But I don't want it to be pretentious, either. It's a tough balance. So far so good, I think, and it only gets better as I grow familiar with the characters and the world.

Isia, Kimishtal, Phixos and the mysterious Edinall and Wailind. You'll be hearing these names for a while now. No more changing story radically every entry. This is a novel, and I don't expect it done any time before Christmas (or maybe yes...? depends if I work on it as college work, we'll see). But then each POV is so radically different in everything that it's almost like I'm writing those three short stories, only at the same time.

Awesome.
