| Thoughts on life, writing and the weirdest ideas... | |||||
Entry for November 4, 2007
It's frightening how quickly time goes by. You write, you read, you code, and suddenly a month has gone by. The good news is, Syzygy is back running at full steam. I've come up with satisfying plotlines for all four POV, and working on them in turn has been an interesting and mind-bending experience. It's great to use such different voices, to play with and emulate styles of some of my favorite authors, mix them together...etc.
It's also confusing. Sometimes I have to read the previous paragraph to remember whether I'm in first person, and whether I did or I am doing. Nevertheless, it should make for a diverse reading experience once it is done. What I can say is that the world and the story are blossoming into something quite beautiful, and I'm very excited about the details that keep on developing as I write. I'm about 55k in now, and everything is taking firmer shape in my mind. I'm at that stage, in the first draft, where I am guided by the skeleton of the plot but every page brings up new, better ideas. Everything keeps changing, but luckily I have my handy software package to quickly patch up coming chapters. Overall I think the general direction is decided. My only hanging point is a major shift in the finale, for purposes of maintaining tension. But that's quite a long way away; I'll let my middle chapters bring up new stuff before I tackle that definitively. A la prochaine! 2007-11-04 16:30:32 GMT
