January 16, 2008 - Back on Track
An entry before midnight, for a change. Can't remember the last time that happened. Anyway, as I promised it's all back on track. Work's done every day (at the cost of the academic, but something's got to suffer, right?). It reminds me a bit of Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine. Apparently, while studying for a degree at Harvard, he would practice 8 hours a day no matter how much academic work he had to do. I don't think I can quite put 8 hours in. I don't think any writer I know puts in 8 hours. It's a bit suicidal (the intensity of the two is also a bit different). Nevertheless, a source of inspiration.
So now that my 'voice' is finally found (or solid enough to be heard, whichever) I've raised my quota to 2,000 words a day. Solid maths will show it's an effective doubling, and that should be an indicator of just how much more confident I am. And the prose is better, too. Now technically this would mean I'd be finishing in half the time. The problem with such a strong narrative voice is that it's harder to bend, less natural. It'll mean the Kimi chapters come out like drunken smalltalk, and Eilam ones have to be hammered and chiseled at every sentence. But don't get me wrong, the novel will still come by a lot faster. A la prossima. 2008-01-16 15:21:14 GMT
