Will Piovano's Musings
Thoughts on life, writing and the weirdest ideas...
April 1, 2008 - Avatar, Work, Exams and the Sickness Sea-Saw
I'm starting to feel better about these great voids of silence. George R. R. Martin posted a link to an article on Robin Hobb's website where she begs writers not to blog, but to write. Her reasoning is that it's too easy to blog and get immediate satisfaction. Well I don't get any responses here so I don't think I'm in danger. =D

I blame this gulf on my being sick for yet another month. Many confused explanations abound, but let's just say a lot of time goes wasted. Add to the the fact that my Master's degree exams are a month away - a work-killing recipe.

I've had good time to read, either way, finishing Enemy of God. Again, as I said with a previous one, it's helped me a lot in counter-balancing the style I acquired from Martin. More of a story-telling voice, if you will. But it's more than that. Martin had that aspect too, if only partially, but his script-style stands out more to the conscious examination. The paradoxical result is that I've gotten closer to his style by trying to get away from it.

All this has translated to more prose for the Prism. Good work is being done there, confidence is increasing. The downside is that I now feel I have to re-edit massive of what was written months ago. Oh well. Better that than not progressing, aye?

And in this month I haven't been completely idle, either. A new short story sprang out of my brief stay at home. Chinese Whispers explains to us just exactly why we sleep, and how such a revelation affects a future pandemic of stillbirths. Hopefully it'll find a home soon.

And I save the best news for last! Avatar on the Belts is going to be serialized in three parts! Future Fire is taking on the task. They thought it was too long but they liked it so they opted for a split. Needless to say, I was in seventh heaven when I got the news.

Very well, back to work.

Well, you can be sure that Pops reads your blog. It may not be so important to you as if someone else did, but I do think you are a great writer and you will be rewarded in the long run.
