Univerisity Championships @ Imperial College, London UK Mar 27, 2004.

The competition has individuals divisions for Kyu (pools) and Dan (KO). In addition there is one called Ladies - meaning all girls have one more chance to fight. In the team competitions, teams with mixed members from other universities was allowed, since quite a lot of people came as individuals and formed their team on the day (like myself).

Also worth mentioning was the team from Univerisity of Mainz, Germany (sorry - not pictured!). So when I looked at them... I don't want to complain how far I have to travel from London to Brighton (OK, it's bloody 2 hrs!!).

In addition to some invited seniors (not necessary the highest ranked referees), members of the British Squad were also judging on the court. So in the end everyone gain some experience out of the taikai.

Statistics for participants in each division as follow (approx):-

Kyu = 30
Dan = 10
Ladies = 3 (!)
Team = 8x5-men team

So it was around 40 people fighting on the day.

I was disappointed that Oxford/Cambridge didn't send a team, or even an individual (ah com'on...). Besides, the host, Imperial College, had 3 teams out of 8 in total on the day. But then again, people weren't too informed about the event (I only know about it 1 month before...)

Also the Ladies division was a bit sad... Should I blame this on other universities not having handsome guys in their club? Hmmm.
