Look at those fantastic eyes !

" I loved the character immediately although there were days I really disliked her too for the ruthless way she´s determined to help - no matter the cost to the person she´s helping. "

Gwyneth about Emma

" My character has watched Emma grow up from afar and so he´s able to watch her blunderings with some amusement. "

Jeremy about Mr. Knightley

" She´s more flawed than any heroine deserves to be. She has so much leisure time on her hands that she can´t resist meddling in other people´s love lives even though she doesn´t really know what she´s doing half the time. "

Gwyneth about Emma

" If you can imagine someone who has never been on a horse attempting to teach someone else to ride , then you have Emma in a nutshell. As a matchmaker , she´s a disaster because she hasn´t even realised it. "

Douglas McGrath about Emma

Emma has got so little clue about life and lovers that she can´t even see she´s in love herself until it´s almost too late. But that´s part of what makes her so endearing and so real.

Personal Note :

On my trip through London I saw advertisements every day when I went to take the subway-trains. One poster showed the lovely face of Gwyneth Paltrow who I first recognized playing Brad Pitt´s wife in Se7en. I knew only little about Jane Austen´s novels at that time (I just watched Sense & Sensibility before). As I´m a fan of costume-films , I often thought of this flick when I came home.

Almost 7 long months later "Emma" appeared on our screens , but only in small theaters , because nobody seemed to give the film any chance. But "Emma" became a hot tip and stayed for months.

I desperately wanted some friends to join me seeing this movie , even the girls seemed not in the least interested. This made me really sad.

Some days later I told my mom that I wanted to go to this movie. I don´t know why , but I gave her an article about "Emma" to read. She fell in love with the story about the unsuccessful matchmaker and longed to see the film with that nice actress. So I took her with me and I´m very glad about this decision. She said it was one of her most favourite movies of all time. Afterwards mom read the book I rented for her and listened to the soundtrack by Rachel Portman.

Now that "Emma" is gone , I become often surprised by listening to people discussing the film. Everybody seems to like it , and there were more people to see it than I thought.

I think , dear reader , you need to see it too ! It is a marvellous romantic comedy with lots of great actors ! You won´t be disappointed !
