January - February 1998
Titanic : No surprise to you , I guess , but I didn´t want to see it first. I´m very afraid if someone is spending an immense amount of money in a plot that has been already used before (in this case even twice). Also I´m no big fan of Kate Winslet and Leonardo di Caprio. I predicted this film would blow and be the greatest failure ever. It turned out I was verrry wrong.
I surfed the net for film-critics on Titanic and was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the viewers. I got more excited with every word I read about it. The same afternoon I took my chances. After three hours (they felt like minutes) I left the cinema exulting. Titanic is really a fine film , by far not the best I´ve ever seen , but still sensationally good. See it !
Titanic won the Golden Globes for best picture (drama) , best director (James Cameron) , best score (drama) and best song (Celine Dion) and 11 Oscars.

Nothing To Lose : My second movie and the first I definitly wanted to see. It stars Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence and was meant to be a comedy. Maybe it was ! I´m sorry to say I never laughed during the show. The best part of the film was when Mr.Lawrence and his film-family sat together hugging each other dearly. That touched me.
Poor Tim , after so many great motion pictures as actor and director , what in the world made him play in this movie ? I hope it didn´t do much damage to his career.

Some words on the plot: There actually was none. O.K. , if you call that a good one : A crew of a small spaceship searches for a large spaceship and it´s crew. The big ship is found , but no one is alive. For no good reason the crew of the smaller ship gets frightened and wants to get the hell out of the larger ship. But they are too dumb and mentally insane to manage that. Point.
I´m so sorry that I wasn´t scared to death , but , believe it or not , E.V. was sort of a bore. When I think of it : There was a single moment to horrify me - it was the moment when I had to pay my ticket.
The effects in E.V. were nice , the music , it wasn´t able to save the film , but helped a lot. Only two words come to my mind ... RIP OFF - nothing new (see Hellraiser). Showgirls was scarier , Schindler´s List funnier and Alien 4 at least had Winona Ryder. There´s only one thing left to say ... (drums please) ... This movie sucks ! One advice : If you want to play a trick on your girlfriend or get rid of her , take her to this film ... *giggle*.

The plot : Ewan McGregor stars as a cleaning man in L.A. who takes his boss's daughter (Cameron Diaz) hostage after being fired and replaced by a robot. Two "angels" (Holly Hunter / Delroy Lindo) who are in charge of human relationships on earth, offer some unsolicited help to bring this unlikely couple together. The "angels" are so successful that the daughter soon turns on her father in order to save her captor.

Some critics say Cameron is not much of an actress , that might be true , but she improves from movie to movie. Ewan is really good (though I didn´t like Trainspotting too much). As in Emma he proves that he´s a fair singer. In a small village he´s taken for a pop-star and has to perform a song , while doing a little dance-sequence with Cameron (she looks really good). Holly and Delroy do a marvellous job , failing where ever it is possible , but be "victorious" at last.
See it , believe it. This movie is really great , I bet you´ll have lots of fun. Please do not read the critics by Mr.Showbiz , someone should really kick his ass !
Facts about A Life Less Ordinary
Cameron , of course ,
gets the award and thanks all the peoole he wants to share this award with.
At last he mentions his former drama-teacher back home , he dedicates the
Oscar to him and by the way outs him as gay. -
Imagine what a rouse broke through the tiny village that evening.
From this time the teacher (played extraordinarly by Kevin Kline) gets no rest. Everyone wants to know now if it was true , even the press (including Tom Selleck) is looking forward to a statement. Kevin denies and tells that he´s going to marry his fiancee (Joan Cusack) soon.
Everything is prepared for the wedding and running fairly just to the point , when bride and bridegroom are expected to say YES in front of the priest and the audience.
In and Out is a truly funny movie , all actors do very well. So if you love to laugh heartily you have to see this film. If you hate Barbra Streisand , too.
I saw As Good at the
end of February , so I wasn´t influenced by the Oscars (who mean
a lot to me, even I´m not often satisfied with the member´s
decision, but in this case they were perfectly right). The film held the
balance between funny and touching very well. Jack´s performance
as a neurotic writer who can´t help insulting all people he meets
, who (almost) never finds the right words and who dumps every piece of
soap after using it only once ... ah - what an experience.
And Helen , the waitress , who (nearly) always keeps calm , though she
has a sick child at home and Jack as her burden... .
Greg Kinnear, his only sorrow seems to be his little dog, until his life
changes totally when he gets beat up and robbed and faces suffering when
all his money is spent for hospital-fees.
I won´t tell you the plot of the movie , but I feel like tellinkg you I was extremely glad I saw it. Only one thing that´s very necessary : This flick has a happy end, and every visitor will feel that it is as good as it gets.
