Great Expectations : Sybil of GirlsOnFilm (these babes are great) wrote about GE :"Oh, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times." I think she´s right. I felt exactly that way when I experienced the movie.

I think I went there because of Gwyneth (and Gwyneth alone). No thats not true : Robert deNiro´s name and director Alfonso Cuaron´s helped a little , too. The story was taken from Charles Dickens and transfered into our time.

Folks , I have to tell you this : This movie wasn´t have as good as I hoped. I neither say it was bad. The best thing about it was it´s score and the songs (hardly available is the score album). There were some really nice moments in GE , the children´s behaviour , the dances , everytime Estella and Finn (Ethan Hawke) meet and of course the end, that makes everyone feel a little more comfortable about the movie.
But, I have to admit it, most parts of GE were strictly boring and Anne Bancroft as Miss Dinsmoor nerves you all through the flick.

You may have a great time while watching the film , it really helps if you go with no great expectations and when you didn´t read Dickens´ story , this would only disappoint you.

Mimic : It is a horror-film ! The bugs and roaches are disgusting ! Mira Sorvino and Jeremy Northam are cute ! And - yes - I don´t think you will be scared enough to lie awake all night with the light on !

Plot: In an attempt to end a deadly epidemic, spread by roaches, that is striking the children of New York City Dr. Susan Taylor deposits gen-manipulated bugs into the bowles of N.Y.´s underground, so they will eat all the plague-carrying roaches.
Everything works well for the next three years. But then something very nasty appears in the underground. Actually , it is far scarier to wait on things to happen then to see the creatures who kill for their living. Mira and Jeremy, along with two other fine actors play hide and seek with the super-bugs and finally kill them all.

I liked Mimic, maybe because I adore Mira, who I first saw in Woody Allen´s Mighty Aphrodite, and Jeremy, who did so well in Emma. It was a really entertaining action-movie, I won´t recommend it strongly to you, but I think you won´t be bored.

Kiss The Girls : Thriller a la Se7en, again with fabolous actor Morgan Freeman, who plays Dr. Alex Cross, a cop/shrink. Story : Some beautiful young women, students from the local college, happen to get abducted - among them the niece of Dr.Cross.
Dr. Cross begins to develop a profile of the suspect, who calls himself Casanova. In the meantime Casanova collects another young woman, surgical intern and kick-boxing Dr. Kate McTiernan (Ashley Judd). Casanova doesn´t punish his victims, he only hurts or even kills them if they try to scream or flee. But Kate is able to escape and so she and Alex track down Casanova in a nice showdown.
It´s always the same old story, but the audience seems to like films with very similar plots as this one over and over. "Kiss The Girls" has it´s moments, but it´s rather boring in the middle. There isn´t much gore or blood in this movie, so will not be disgusted. I rate this movie GOOD. Come and see it yourself !

The Big Lebowski : This is Joel and Ethan Coen´s follow up to their Oscar-winning flick "Fargo" (but written earlier). Now to the story : Jeff Lebowski (Jeff Bridges), he only wants to called "The Dude", is an unemployed guy who likes to hang around, sipping White Russians and play bowling with his friends, Vietnam-veteran Walter (John Goodman) and Donny (Steve Buscemi - a Coen-veteran).
One day he gets beat up at home by some thugs, who take him by mistake for another Jeff Lebowski, a millionaire whose young wife owes a considerable amount of money around town. During this little mishap one of the guys happen to pee on The Dudes carpet.
Jeff decides to pay a visit to the millionaire to receive some money for another rug. But instead he gets involved in a kidnapping affair.

The Big Lebowski is a marvellous with such great actors as John Turturro (he is Jesus, a fellow bowler, waering a jump-suit and talking weird stuff) and Julianne Moore (some crazy performance-artist and daughter of the millionaire) along the three guys mentioned above. It doesn´t have a great plot, it doesn´t need some either, it´s the excellent scenes who make this movie truly grand. Go and see it as long as you can ! One of my favourites this year !
