Great Expectations : Sybil of GirlsOnFilm (these babes are great) wrote about GE :"Oh, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times." I think she´s right. I felt exactly that way when I experienced the movie.
I think I went there because of Gwyneth (and Gwyneth alone). No thats not true : Robert deNiro´s name and director Alfonso Cuaron´s helped a little , too. The story was taken from Charles Dickens and transfered into our time.
Folks , I have to tell
you this : This movie wasn´t have as good as I hoped. I neither say
it was bad. The best thing about it was it´s score and the songs
(hardly available is the score album). There were some really nice moments
in GE , the children´s behaviour , the dances , everytime Estella
and Finn (Ethan Hawke) meet and of course the end, that makes everyone
feel a little more comfortable about the movie.
But, I have to admit it, most parts of GE were strictly boring and Anne
Bancroft as Miss Dinsmoor nerves you all through the flick.
You may have a great time while watching the film , it really helps if you go with no great expectations and when you didn´t read Dickens´ story , this would only disappoint you.
Plot: In an attempt to
end a deadly epidemic, spread by roaches, that is striking the children
of New York City Dr. Susan Taylor deposits gen-manipulated bugs into the
bowles of N.Y.´s underground, so they will eat all the plague-carrying
roaches.
Everything works well for the next three years. But then something very
nasty appears in the underground. Actually , it is far scarier to wait
on things to happen then to see the creatures who kill for their living.
Mira and Jeremy, along with two other fine actors play hide and seek with
the super-bugs and finally kill them all.
I liked Mimic, maybe because I adore Mira, who I first saw in Woody Allen´s Mighty Aphrodite, and Jeremy, who did so well in Emma. It was a really entertaining action-movie, I won´t recommend it strongly to you, but I think you won´t be bored.
The Big Lebowski is a marvellous with such great actors as John Turturro (he is Jesus, a fellow bowler, waering a jump-suit and talking weird stuff) and Julianne Moore (some crazy performance-artist and daughter of the millionaire) along the three guys mentioned above. It doesn´t have a great plot, it doesn´t need some either, it´s the excellent scenes who make this movie truly grand. Go and see it as long as you can ! One of my favourites this year !
