Chapter 2 - Signs of Strife

While peace reigned for eons, soon Apsu and Tiamat began to feel
disturbed by the noise made by their daughters. Mumu's gay chatter,
Lahcmu and Lahcamu's fierce rivalry, Kishar's and Anshar's claims to
greatness, and Anu and Ea's gossip.

"Father, what's wrong?" asked a curious Mummu.
"Nothing my child" answered Apsu, hiding his frustrations.
"But father, why do you---"
"Go on child, be with your sibligs. I need to be by myself."
Mumu had a long face after that, and slowly and sadly walked from
her father's presence. For the first time in eons she was silent,
and ever since then, became recluse and shy. At least it brought
some sort of peace of mind to Apsu, but he was still not happy to
see his firstborn in sorrow.

"I am mother's favorite! I am more beautiful." declared Lahcamu.
"No. I am!" responded her rival, Lahcmu.
"How would you know?"
"I just do! I would fight legions of warriors in defense of our
mother."
"How does war favor a mother's love? Truly beauty can seize the
hearts of even the coldest of hearts."
The two sisters continued their quarrel, and Tiamat only shook
her head in disappointment. "YOU TWO BE QUIET!" shouted Tiamat.
The sisters were shocked.
"Mother, I was only telling the truth." pleaded Lahcamu.
"No mother, she is lying." retorted Lahcmu.
"Enough! Perhaps your father should judge you two." finished Tiamat.
That was enough to finally silence the rivalling sisters, but in
reality, not enough to instill peace in her heart.

"Mind your space!" complained Kishar, also enviously eyeing Anshar's
magnificent rings, compared to the almost invisible one she has.
"I only take what is destined to be mine" replies Anshar, quietly
hoping for a peaceful resolute to their dispute.
"You two have your own space, learn to live with it. I will hear no
more of this, understand?" scolds Tiamat.
"Yes, mother" reply the two coyly. Anshar turned away to hide her
tears, which remained unnoticed to the suspicious Kishar.

"Gee, what's gotten into them?" asked Anu.
"I don't know. Everyone else is just biting each other's heads off."
shrugged Ea. Their closeness is a stark contrast to the rivalries of
their siblings.
"While I admire your closeness, I will not tolerate your gossips of
your siblings." said Tiamat, before she turned to her husband.
"Hmmm. I sense something." whispered Anu.
"Me too. A very uneasy feeling from mother, and father" replied Ea.

While the family was experiencing its growing pains, in the shadows
Chaos was revelling. It was Chaos who caused each member of the family
into their peculiar behaviours. It was only a matter of time, she
thought, before the family will eventually consume itself. To ensure
that her plans come into play, she entered Apsu's mind, and began
whispering subliminal thoughts to him.

"Apsu, look at what has happened to your family. Your daughters are a
disgrace to you. Your firstborn only disturbs you by being so close.
Lahcmu and Lahcamu keep battling each other for your so called affections.
Kishar and Anshar squabbling over space. Anu and Ea gossiping. Is this
the family you wanted? What of Tiamat? Is she happy? Don't you dream of
loving children who will pay hommage to you and your wife? You must do
something Apsu. You must deal with them."

"Yes. Yes, that is true. This family is a disgrace. I must punish them.
Mumu is no longer the bundle of joy that I have been so fond of. Lahcmu
and Lahcamu, always quarreling. Kishar and Anshar, if only they would
share their space with each other. Anu and Ea, what gossip do they have
with each other? Could they be scheming? No. I must deal a heavy hand on
them all!" declared Apsu, as he was seated on his throne. Without
realizing it, he said it all out loud, and it was all heard by
Mumu, who now shuddered in terror at her father's words.

"Father, why? What have I done to deserve this? What is my sin against
you?" pleaded Mumu.
"Silence! It must be done." shouted Apsu.
"Father, please! I - "
"ENOUGH!" yelled Apsu, lounging forward and shoving his daughter back.
"AAAAAGGGHHHH!" screamed Mumu, scorched by her father's solar flares as
she falls roughly. Other than the burns on her dress (which became
reflected on her planet, which to this day appears burned and barren in
the physical world), she was basically unhurt. However, tears began to
flow from her eyes, as she become despondent and fearful from her father's
rage.

"Huh!" gasped all the other sisters as they witnessed for the first time,
their father's rage.
"ALL OF YOU!!! YOU DISGRACE ME!!!" shouted Apsu, as a bright golden aura
builds around him, and subsequently, the sun increases its stormy activity.
"Father! What are you doing!?" exclaimed Lahcmu.
"Please! Stop!" cried Lahcamu.
"Don't do it father!" pleaded Anu.
"Why father? WHY????" shouted Kishar.
"FATHER NO!!!!" wailed Anshar, who was actually well aware of her father's
intentions - to cause the sun to go supernova and destroy the solar system.
"Thus shall be Apsu's judgement. Goodbye my love" said Tiamat softly,
trying to keep the tears in her eyes from flowing.

"NO! THIS WILL NOT BE!!!" exclaims Ea, which surprises everyone. "You
do not have the right destroy your own blood."
"HOW DARE YOU SPEAK SO BOLDLY, INSOLENT ONE!!!" answers Apsu. "NOTHING
WILL STOP ME!"
"You know not of your children, that we have the power of our planets!"
At that, Ea herself begins to glow with a bluish aura around her. Everyone
is astonished.
"Ea, what are you doing?" asked Lahcmu.
"You're not going to kill him, are you?" said Lahcamu.
"I wouldn't dream of it," answered Ea, "I assure you." Her aura shines
brighter, particularly on her hands. Then, her palms
face Apus, and blue energy beams shoot out to him.
"Wha - WHAT??? WHAT ARE YOU DOING???" shouted Apsu.
"Ea, you can't be serious!" said Kishar.
"Please don't hurt father!" pleaded Mumu.
"That is not my intent at all" says Ea reassuringly.
"EA!!! YOU TRAITOR!!! TRAI--- unnhhh!!" Apsu begins to weaken, and
eventually collapses back on his thone. Soon he falls into a heavy sleep.
"His crown. Take his crown" urged Anu.
"And his cloak. They are his means of controlling the sun." said Anshar.
At that, Ea rushed forward and took Apsu's crown and cloak. The sun
soon stabilized and returned to its original shining state. Apsu remained
asleep. "Forgive me, father" said Ea quietly, stroking his head, then,
overcome with emotion, hugged him. Suddenly Apsu' body glowed again,
startling Ea, who released her hug and stepped back. Apsu's body flickered,
then slowly vanished, leaving behind his starseed, which dived back into
the sun.

"Father!!! NO!!!!" Ea cried.
"He is not really dead" said Anshar.
"What happened to him?" asked Mumu.
"His starseed returned to its birthplace. He will be reborn again soon,
though he may not be the same entity again."
"APSU!!!" wailed Tiamat, who rushed to the sun, but held back by her
daughters.
"Mother, he is not gone, he will return." said Mumu, with a sad but
hopeful look in her eyes.
"I'm sorry" said Ea meekly. "I only intended for him to sleep for awhile.
I didn't mean for this to happen."
"You did what you had to do" said Anu, comforting her twin.
"Sisters, please, we must not let ourselves be lead astray into disharmony"
declared Anshar.
"Who gave you the right to lord over us, Anshar?" asked Lahcmu, as if
challenging her.
"That is not what I intend. I only want our family to be at peace. We
all nearly died at this moment."
"But, what about father?" asked Mumu.
"As I said, he is not gone. He will be reborn. You saw his starseed,
which return to the sun where he was born." answered
Anshar. "He will be back."
"Yes, he... will..." cried Tiamat. Though she approved of Anshar's
proposal to peace in the family, Tiamat remained in distress.

"Insolent fools!" said Chaos in a fit of rage while hiding in the
deepest shadows of the solar system. "You only delayed the inevitable.
Perhaps I will allow you all to exist in your miserable peace for now
with the painful loss of your father, but soon, you will all pay!"
