Searching for Whanau prior to my Great Great Grandfather. WILHELM RUDOLPH / RUDOLF / RURAWHE.

My father was Papu Tahi Rurawhe, also known as Bob or Robert Rudolph. Married Mamaeroa Reti also
known as Retimana, from Waikarei brought up in Whangaruru. I am their second to youngest child of
17 siblings. My Grandfather was Tahi Rudolph from Pupuke KAEO, who married Ewa Waipouri, from
Pawarenga. My Great Grandfather was Hori or George Rurawhe, Married Puti. No known last name, whom
I think married two brothers through time. I know from my Great Great Grandfather
WILHELM / RUDOLPH / RUDOLF or RURAWHE, he married 2 sisters the youngest first.

I would like to know more about my Papa, from his German and French Canadian side of his family.
As my brother has married a French Canadian, been with her for the last 20 odd years, and as you
can see through the Generations. What goes around soon comes around. PLEASE HELP!!

Dear Doreen
Just to say my husband is descended from George's older sister Peti Rudolph from Kaeo. I am trying
to find out more about her husband Henare Wilhelm Kingi apparently from Taranaki who seems also to
be half-caste German.

Only thing I have that might be of interest is a newspaper cutting about the old lady from about
1940 and a little more about Wilhelm's wife Tekoruru Hika I heard from my husband's uncle, Peti
Rudolph's grandson Mr Tom King who is still living where he grew up just near the family urupa at
Kaeo. Wilhelm's wife was also called Mrs Te-Korohu Rudolph on the Mormon website which had their
wedding date as abt 1833 Whangaroa Auckland (district), it must be on record). If you would like
a photocopy of what I have let me know where to send it. If you have anything about them I don't
have you could send it to us

Steve & Lucy King at 15 Chatham St, Addington, Christchurch.

Bye for now

202.27.176.157

Hello Rosemary Elthringham,

Iam pleased to make contact with you. I am related to the Waitangi Cross's, as my mother was a
Cross from Te Haumi, which is a Bay before you get to Paihia and then on to Te Tii beach which
is Waitangi.

It is funny writing this because I don't know if you are in N.Z and have ever been to Waitangi.
My Cross relatives are buried behind the stone church at Paihia, at the now Public Paihia
Cemetery and the Waitangi Cemetery. They are all the same family.

I have begun a search for this family and with the help of my mother have put together a small
collection of photographs of Cross relatives and have begun searching for graves throughout the
North Island.

I live in Wanganui but was born in Kawakawa in the Bay of Islands, my family selling up and
moving when I was 03 yrs old. But I still consider the Bay of Islands as my home. I make numerous
trips back to the north when I can get a week off work.

I don't know how much you know about the Cross family but what I have is as follows:
HENRY CROSS (a whiteman) beds MERE NGAMARARA
|
HENARE TE RANGI CROSS and KEREIHI TE KEMARA
|
PIRINI/PRINCE TE RANGI/MARAETAI PRINCE CROSS &
HAREPO TE RANGI CROSS (both buried at Waitangi)

HENARE TE RANGI CROSS then marries KANITANA/KANE/CONNIE JOYCE
|
MARY BRYERS (NEE CROSS)
HANA HOWELL (NEE CROSS)
PUKE CROSS
JAMES TE RANGI CROSS
NED/NERI CROSS (my Grandfather)
HENRY VIOLET CROSS
SIDNEY CROSS
MURIEL CAMPBELL (NEE CROSS)
ALICE CLIFTON (NEE CROSS)
NAPIER CROSS
EPAI NORMAN CROSS
ANGUS CROSS CLARA LEVET (NEE CROSS)
etc, etc, etc.......

The PRINCE and HAREPO TE RANGI CROSS FAMILY are the Te Kemara (nga puhi chief)connection. Gracie or Kereihi was Te Kemara's daughter. I have the names of the rest of Te kemara's children if it is relavant.
I haven't listed the Prince and Harepo off-spring, I have the names of a few but not all. This is still part of my search.
I have also not yet gone off shore to see where 'the whiteman' Cross came from. Iam told that he was a whaler who perhaps came ashore at Rawhiti (in the Bay)and that Henare Te Rangi was an only child to that issue.
I have the Maori ancestry for Mere Ngamarara if you are interested.

Well, I will make this my lot for now. Get hold of me on e-mail if you have a need. Hope this snippet has been of help, and as I said I have photo's of 99% of the persons mentioned. You are welcome to copies of them.
Thanks once again for the opportunity to correspond.

Happy new year. Thank you for your reply. What you have given me I will pass on to my father as he
will know this family and yes he does have some history. In short we have pictures of Hare, Prince
and Te Kemara. My father still lives in Kaikohe and yes I would say we are related as my grandfather
is Tame Te Rangi Cross married Cornelia Bertha Yorke and had two children Nigel Thomas (my father)
and Beatrice.

Please forgive me but all the information that I have gathered is with Dad. I will be up in
Kaikohe this weekend and will make contact with you soon.

I did a bit of a research and have found Hikihiki Mere Te Rito, born 6 Sept 1878 in Wairoa. She
was the youngest of 4 children. Patu Whakairi Te Rito was the eldest Brother and my grandfather.
The next born was Te Waiti Te Rito, female born abt 1874 in wairoa and the 3rd was Pootohinga Te
Rito, female and born abt 1876. There is no mention of Winiata or Tamaki.

My dad is Mokena Te Rito and was born in Whakaki. His dad was Patu Te Rito, and his dad was Kahu
Te Rito who had 18 brothers and sisters. All this information is on the Latterday Saints Website.
The whakapap was given to the Mormon church by my Aunty Moetu who is my dads sister. (She is
Taine Randells Grand mother.)I am currently researching the Te Rito Whakapapa and will get back
to you if we are connected. I think there is a connection as there are only two Te Rito lines.

Send me your e-mail address.
