However, Alfred Crisp Ford's birth certificate indicates that his parents were two English settlers - "John" Ford and Mary Ann Crisp. My great great grandparents were Thomas Roach (died 1928) and Mary skipworth (1854 - 1940). I don't know anything about Thomas except that I think his father may have come to New Zealand in 1841 and married a maori woman (?????). Mary's parents were Francis Skipworth (1820 - 1855) and Hinenui Te Po (Nagi Hui/Raukawa?) who was the second daughter of Paranitia Whawha and Matenga te Matai. I believe her elder sister (Karaitana te Puia Punairangititi) was the wife of Hoani Taipua who was the leading chief of Nagti Raukawa. Beyond this I know nothing. If anyone could put me onto any research on either the Skipworth side or the Roach I would be extremely interested.
