I am seeking information about my grandfather Merengi Komene, I know he was born in KeriKeri but thats
all I know. He moved to Whangaparaoa on the east coast as a bushman,and there he married my
grandmother
  Rukirihira Taitua.

I would like to hear from any of his direct whanau up north. I have a little information on his
whakapapa, this is a direct line to the Komene whanau:

Rahiri=Whakaruru
Kaharau=Kohine Mataroa
Taurapoho=Ruakiwhiria
Mahia=Tuawa
Poro=Hape
Te Auaha=Wai
Ure=Miki
Patu=Rua
Paratene Te Ripi=Mereana Ariteuru
Te Ripi Wihongi=Erana Tukupu
Wiremu Takena Wihongi=Erana Rangitokona
Komene Takena Wihongi=Ere Erueti
Merengi Takena Komene=Rukirihira Taitua

I don't know any of our whanau up north and I
would like to get to know them.I was bought up
with my cousins on the east coast where my Kuia
is from.

Any info on Alfred Ford Crisp, b.1869?
Posted by Peter Ford
pacford@qldnet.com.au
January 7, 2003, 9:39 pm

My great-grandfather, Alfred Crisp Ford, was born in Geraldine on the 29 May 1869.
A photograph indicates that he is of maori or part-Maori decent, but no-one can give any information
about him except that his mother was "a maori woman". However, Alfred Crisp Ford's birth certificate
indicates that his parents were two English settlers - "John" Ford and Mary Ann Crisp.

So I have to assume he was adopted or acquired, or that Alfred John Ford may have got a maori girl
pregnant, and Mary Crisp may have taken the baby on as her own???

Can any one help me?

He is very well documented in our library books.
He was very involved with Maori Parliament at Papawai. He is of Ngati Kahungunu.
If you are of the Paraone Whanau of Te Hauke region, I understand you have connections to him.

Thankyou for your response, and I didn't realise Mahupuku is related to the Paraone's of Te Hauke,
intriguing. Hamuera Tamehana Mahupuku is the person you are referring to, a son, to Tamehana Mahupuku
(Senior). I am looking for confirmation for one of the daughter's of Mahupuku (Senior), Ruapututu,
who married Wiremu Kingi Te Rangitaike/Te Rangitake? My husband's whakapapa information points to a
union between these two people.
Would you know anything of this?
Thankyou again

If you do a search of the Maori Newspapers online
you will find a lot of info about Wiremu Kingi Rangitake ara William King. Search Mahupuku as well.

My father now deceased
Edward Harold lewis was the eldest son of
Harold Lewis. believed to have come from Ruatoria?

unfortunately this is all the info i have due to my grand father passing himself off as being Welsh.
unlike him i would be very proud to know the history of my whanau..

oh the only other info i had was that many years ago an elderly maori man visited my dad and handed
him an adze.. which was to be handed down to the eldest son of each generation.. my brother now has

Kia ora,
I am interested in finding out some more about my whakapapa and I am hoping someone can fill in
the limited information I do have. My great great grandparents were

Thomas Roach (died 1928) and Mary skipworth (1854 - 1940).

I don't know anything about Thomas except that I think his father may have come to New Zealand in
1841 and married a maori woman (?????).

Mary's parents were Francis Skipworth (1820 - 1855) and Hinenui Te Po (Nagi Hui/Raukawa?) who was
the second daughter of Paranitia Whawha and Matenga te Matai. I believe her elder sister (Karaitana
te Puia Punairangititi) was the wife of Hoani Taipua who was the leading chief of Nagti Raukawa.
Beyond this I know nothing.

If anyone could put me onto any research on either the Skipworth side or the Roach I would be
extremely interested.
Kindest regards
Amanda

I am seeking the names of (and any other information about) the grandparents of Mere Riripeti

of Raharuhi Porangi and of Hikutawatawa or Rora.

Finding the direct line between Mere and Kahungunu (chief of Ngati Kahungunu) is my aim in this
research. I would like to find out where Mere fits into the genealogical charts which are published
