His name was Jack Pohatu, or sometimes known as Jack Stone. He married Wawata Rangi from Ngatiporou and settled at Whareponga in Ruatoria. All I know about my papa before he moved to Ruatoria is that he came from Muriwai. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Re: Pohatu whanau Posted by Peter Heaslip PHeaslip@xtra.co.nz July 3, 2003, 10:11 am, in reply to "Pohatu whanau" 210.55.44.48 How amazing that yours is the first entry ... posted TODAY. How "tinny" is that??? I am trying to find out about "POHATU" [just one name] .... born about 1700 [before the pakeha].. probably at "MARORI"... now known as Makarori Beach, just East of Gisborne. Pohatu lived for a time at Waiotahi PA [near the Waiotahi River Estuary. Later he journeyed to a PA just North of what is now Eketahuna. He had relatives at all of these places. I met a Mrs Emery near Eketahuna and she knew who might know. But I've not got back to her. Pohatu had a strong emotional attachment to Waiotahi .... but my interest is what I think of as Marori. Your Jack Pohatu would have been almost half-way between Marori and Waiotahi ... travelling by whaka .... which would have been the quickest and safest way. [Plus you can catch more fish in the sea than in the forest]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Maggie Royal Posted by kristan miss_o@mail.com July 2, 2003, 2:56 pm 210.54.247.221 Mother of my grandfather lionel wahineiti dixon kikopiro marae any info please ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Searching for whanau of Meri Pera Wi Tute (Kawhena) Posted by Inge Friday Inge.Friday@xtra.co.nz July 2, 2003, 10:29 am 219.88.53.75 Hi, I'm searching for our whanau of my grandmother Meri Pera Wi Tute (kawhena), who died in childbirth in Northland.
