" The white man wanders in search of a home,
Far from his country and friends does he roam.
He came over the water to visit our isle,
And when he beheld it his heart did smile ... "

  - Maori paddle song on Logan-Campbell's journey to Waiheke Is

A first hand account of Dr Campbell's travels about Auckland during the 1840s. By Campbell's
recollection, Auckland Nov 1840 - '"The captal! - was a few boats and canoes on the beach, a
few tents and break-wind huts along the margin of the bay, and then - a sea of fern stretching
away as far as the eye could reach."'

John Logan CAMPBELL, born 3 Nov 1817, Edinburgh, SCT to Dr John Campbell. In 1858 he married
