Come & Gone...
-Live From Death Row: Nick(vocals), Kakos(drums), Kevin(bass), Mikey(guitar). -Strikers: Och(vocals), Marty(drums), Cooch(bass), Josh(guitar). Are they ever REALLY gone? Releases: Last Man Standing '98 demo, 7" on vulture records.
Fast Times In Jr. High Logic: Chris(guitar), Joe(keyboard), Dan(vocals), Nick(drums), Tim(bass)
-Accidental Birth: John(vocals), Tim(guitar), Marty(Grand Prixx, The Strikers, drums) & Josh(Gandiva, Last In Line, bass). Old school hardcore band from Westfield. The only release that they had was a song called FSU on the Vibratory Disturbance 2 comp. Their last show was played in 1996 (i think), but there was a reunion show in summer of '99 at stonkie's wmass fest. -Aftershock: Toby(vocals), Tom(drums), Chris(bass), Adam(guitar). After a long run (1994-2000) in the western mass hardcore/metal scene and some member changes Aftershock called it quits for good. They played their first show at the Vertex in South Hadley in 1994 (with Earth Crisis) and their last show at The Fat Cat in Springfield in 2000 in front of a great hometown crowd. They had a demo, 2 cds and a couple of 7"s.
-All I Can: Brett(vocals), Russ(guitar), Paul(guitar) Dan of Fire(bass) and Brian(drums). Fast hardcore with old school influences and some metallic riffs mixed with catchy rythms. The first show was played @ Games n Lanes with Last In Line, Tsoroth, Towny and Twisty Straws. The last show was at Gasoline Alley in May '99. Released a 6 song demo that was recorded by Steve of The Marshes on February 6th, 1999, and called it quits in July of 1999.
Crash Davis: Bill(vocals), Dan(guitar), Theo(bass), SweetPea(guitar), Nate(drums). Fast hardcore picking up where Line Of Fire left off. The first show was Christmas Eve of 1998 in Stonkie's basement. Summer of 1999 saw them go on a 3 week tour of the East/Central United States with In Reach. They released a demo and Pedro's Sike Records Released it as a 7". A promo cd was made in very limited quantities right before the band broke up in late 1999. The last show as at the Flywheel in Easthampton
-The Drednoks:DJ(vocals, Last In Line), Josh(guitar, Last In Line, Accidental Birth, Gandiva, Stormtroopers), Jay(guitar, Strikers, Sweet 16), Alex(bass, Strikers), Marty(drums, Accidental Birth, Strikers, Grand Prixx)The Drednocks were around from at least 1994 til 1998. They had 2 demos...a first one called "Eat My Bass" without Josh in the band, and "We Came To Wreck Everything" with Josh in the band. Prior to being called The Drednocks they were known as The Bitch Boys, but never released anything. September 11th, 1999 they played once again, amusing and entertaining, even without playing in 2 years they still sounded good. -Hand Over Fist: Played "new school" hardcore. Sorry i don't remember much about them. I think they were a straight edge band. I know that they played a Snapcase song sometimes. Mike Mannix (Ellington Records)played bass, Matt Pike (Trainwreck Booking) sang, guitarist went on to Shadow's Fall. Another trivia fact: Hand Over Fist played the first Stonkie basement show ever!
-Gandiva: The final line up: Brendan(vocals), Josh(Last In Line, Stormtroopers, bass), Andy K.(Barrit, Year Of Our Lord, guitar), Nick(Tsaroth, Year Of Our Lord, guitar), Glen(Hallraker, Year Of Our Lord, drums). Pat Campbell was the original guitarist and wrote the majority of the music and Ben Regal played guitar for a time. Formally known as Persist and One Fall, Gandiva was from East Longmeadow. They played metal Krishna-core. They released the "Second Mother" demo and another 4 song demo called "Material Pool" (heavy death metal sound) in 1997, as well as a 7" on Devil's Head records with 3 of the Material Pool songs on it (which were far superior lyrically and musically to the first demo). They played their final show at Pearl St. in December of 1997. The members are now in Year Of Our Lord.
YOUTH SHOCK BRIGADE! These guys were the kids of the scene back in 1988. Playing some straight edge hardcore like wishful thinking but with more singing than yelling. They were bent on bringing our scene back and had their whole 7" dedicated to it. A nifty little bit of info: Noah from G-Man went on to play in the Krishna band Prema, bass I think.
-Hallraker:Jim(vocals), Jim P.(guitar), Jim S.(bass), Glen B.(drums). Brian was their original drummer. Great, crazy fast hardcore. I have heard them be compared to Black Flag(well they DID do My War), and Swiz. Well, all good things come to an end. Hallraker played their last show at the Infinity in Springfield on September 2, 1998. They played a great energetic set, as usual. It's sad to see another great Western Mass band call it quits. They will be missed dearly. They have a demo 7" called "Sessions" out, a 7" on Phyte called "She" and a cd with a few extra tracks. I have heard that when 3 of the original members relocated to California they started a new band in early 1998.
-Havoc:Slater(vocals), Sroka(guitar), JayRod(bass), Dan(guitar), Jay(drums). Born from the ashes of Piledriver, Havoc were crazy, hard metal. A demo was released and they played many shows around the northeast. They made you want to cut someone's head off when they played. They have changed their name and some members and are now known as Daedalus Complex.
-Scurvy: Josh(bass), Brendan(vocals), Brian(guitar), John(drums). A band with the dream of becoming pirates. Heavy mosh type hardcore kind of like Hatebreed meets Slayer. A demo and a cd with a weezer cover were released.
-Line of Fire: Final lineup: Bill Rodrigues(vocals), Dan Horlitz(guitar), Ed Muska(bass), Nate Doughty(drums). Ben Regel(original guitarist) and Nate Fay played in LOF too at different points in time. Line of Fire was together from 1994 until 1998. Playing their first show with Cornerstone and Justify in CT and their last show with Warren Commission, Catch 13 and Onslaught at games n lanes. They played fast, energetic old style hardcore with some good heavy parts and positive lyrics about unity, anti-racism and friendships. Their releases include the GO! ep (but the were only 10 made), 1995 demo (Tag Team '95), 8 song 7" ep "Your Side" (UP #1), and a split 7" with Capgun (UP #2). They played their last show at Games n Lanes on May 18, 1998. They will surely be missed. Bill, Nate, and Ben are now in Red Reaction.
-Kinison: Alex(guitar), Rd(vocals), Eric(guitar), Tommy(drums), John(bass). An old school hardcore band from late '97 when a 3 song demo was recorded. They had some lineup changes in hope to revive the band but things didn't work out and everything ended in late '99.
-The Out Patients: Here's a brief history of how things started in '82.... Outpatients formed in 1982 out of the ashes of Vis' first group Mace (80-82). Scott formed his own band in early 82 with high school buddy Lou Barlow. The band came to be known as Deep wound, Western MA's first hardcore band. After Mace's bass player left for the Navy, Scott, still in Deep Wound at the time, joined with Vis and Mike, and the Outpatients were formed. After dozens of "punk" parties around Western Mass, the band recorded their first tape, on February 4,1983. They also recorded in July of 83' at Radio beat in Boston for another tape. -PCP: Don't know much about them except they were around way back when and had that nifty song on the "Back Again" comp, the one that goes "positive, negative.." repeatedly. Justin went on to sing for Pushbutton Warfare in their early days,
-Piledriver: Slater(Havoc, vocals), JayRod(Havoc, bass), Russell(All I Can, drums), Sroka(Havoc, guitar). A show at Chicopee High School (one of their first) exposed these guys to the school and scared the living day lights out of the faculty, they never recovered...these guys were HARDcore. -Pushbutton Warfare: Formally known as Bloodbath, these guys have been in our scene since around 1989. They played brutal, heavy, hard music. Bruce sang for Bloodbath and the later Pushbutton but Justin was the original Pushbutton singer as well as on the cd. They have released a demo,a 7" on Jamie Jasta's label and 2 cds and Bloodbath was on the "Back Again" comp. Pushbutton Warfare played their last show at The Infinity in 1998.
-Prosper:Kevin(vocals), Bob(drums), Vaughn(bass), Russ(All I Can, Piledriver, guitar). These guys got the mosh going when they played. Hard and heavy with good fast parts. Comparable to early Earth Crisis and Despair.
-Scapegoat:Doug(Warren Commission, guitar), Jay(Catch 13, vocals), Greg(guitar), Mike(bass) & Scott(drums). From Chicopee, they sounded like a cross between Chokehold and Helmet. They were only around for a year and called it quits in 1996. -Slab:Catch 13 with a different singer and more of a metal, Pantera sound. They were around for about 6 years and eventually changed to Catch 13 in 1997.
-Spoke: Mark Dargie (guitar, Wishful Thinking, A.O.I, Fallout Victims), John Brown (vocals), Paul Ramenko (bass, now in Shadows Fall), and Matt Netto (drums.) Around from 1990 until about 1992. They played DC type emo. A 7" was released on Community Chest Records -The Stormtroopers: Originally formed in the Summer of 1996 as a joke. The original line up was Aaron (Last In Line), Mikey (Last In Line), Zach and Scott. With this lineup they recorded 2 demos (both very metal influenced, but with punk parts) and played 2 shows. Zach and Scott got the boot. In the Spring of 1997 they got Josh(Accidental Birth, Gandiva, Drednocks) and Jay B. to pick up where they left off. This line-up showed that westfield was about punk. They recorded 1 demo "Bum Beaters". Gone were the metal songs, and in w/ fast hardcore. In the winter of 1997 they broke up, about 2 months after The Drednocks.
-Wishful Thinking: Western Mass Hardcore circa 1988. These guys were THE band from these parts, playing, fast, straight edge hardcore ala Youth Of Today and Bold. They released a 7" and were on the famous Western Mass comp "Back Again" with the song "Against Your Will".
-Wish: (1990-1993) Justin(guitar/vocals, Pushbutton Warfare), Matt (bass, Illinoise Jacket, Seppuku), and Jay(drums). Played melodic punk from Pittsfield MA. They put out a 6 song demo and a split 7" with Focust in 1992 on Community Chest Records. In 1994 Wish bacme known as Outlet and played melodic punk/hardcore. -Deep Wound: Inventors of Thrash. Featuring Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh), J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Scott Helland (Outpatients) and Charlie. They put out 1 7" on Radio Beat records in 1983. Rumor has it that they also recorded an LP which was never released.
