"Raiders Lead the Way, HOOAH!"
The Raider Team trains and competes in the following criteria:

1) Physical Fitness Tests (PT)
2) First-Aid
3) Land Navigation
4) One-Rope Bridge
5) Let 1 Knowledge

All Raider Team members train very rigorously in these categories for approximately 6 months. It is probably the most physically demanding team in WMHS.  It's extremely hard work and requires a cadet to not only be physically determined and fit, but also mentally determined. Only a select few cadets have what it takes to be a RAIDER! Members of the Raider Team are viewed as true examples and representatives of JROTC and WMHS. It is important to maintain high standards of conduct and proficiency. Raiders are expected to set the example at all times.

Sometime around April, a competition is held with all the Raider Teams in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania invited. There, all the Raider Teams compete against each other in all of the 5 categories listed above and in various other contests. This year's competition will be held on April 28, 2001.

Last year, on April 8, 2001, our Wyandanch Army JROTC Raider Team surprised every team in the competition when they won 1st place trophies in the 5 Kilometer 8-Man Team Run, and the Army Physical Fitness Test, the 2nd place trophy in the 1-Rope-Bridge, and the 3rd place trophy in Land Navigation and First Aid. In addition, Harold Jean-Louis further surprised everyone by  also winning the Iron Man Trophy (the most difficult trophy to win at the competition) for being the most physically fit cadet at the competition. In the end, the Raider Team finished as the 3rd best overall team. These results were highly unanticipated due to a few reasons. First, our Raider Team was very unexperienced in Raider Events due to the fact that this was only the 3rd team ever established. Another reason is because our school had a very small Battalion in proportion to other Battalions. As a result, less mentally and physically qualified cadets were available to try out for the Raider Team. However, despite the obstacles, our team persevered and came out triumphant in the end!!

Raider Team Memebers for the '1999-2000' school year:

Team Captain:
Cadet First Sergeant Rudolpho DelValle Jr.
Co-Captain:
Cadet Lieutenant First Class Harold Jean-Louis
Cadet Command Sergeant Major Pierre Bonaventure
                         Cadet Master Sergeant Peter Domond
                         Cadet Sergeant Lance Carter
                         Cadet Corporal Nelson Reyes
                         Cadet Corporal Terrill Hardy
                         Cadet Corporal Xavier Vargas
                         Cadet Corporal Corey Saulter
                         Cadet Corporal Calvin Evanson

Most of these Raiders trained at a secret training facility and were more than ready for their competition which included the powerful teams from New York State Military Academy, Francis Lewis High School, Minisink Valley High School, and a few others. Also, LaSalle Military Academy which failed to enter a team due to the high level of physical competition. involved.

This year, our Raider Team aspires to bring home 1st place in all of the trophies and 1st overall place! Robert Montufar  also aspires  to follow in Harold Jean-Louis's footsteps and bring home the Iron Man Trophy! Let's hope that the Wyandanch Raider Team pulls through once again this year! Good Luck the whole team!!!

Raider Creed....
The Raider Team is a special team that provides more oppurtunities to cadet's physical conditioning and leadership development than are normally taught in the LET portion of the JROTC curriculum and it allows cadets to participate in the field portion of the Army.

With it's name based off the Army Rangers, Raider Team is a "watered down" version of it's military counterpart, however, its non-tactical.
(above are a few pictures of some cadets who participated in the competitions in New Jersey. The triumphant teams are recieving the trophies which they have earned by proving their worth against other teams in competition).
(I will be uploading pics of our OWN Raider Team Soon. So keep visiting for updates).
