Harrow Campus A football team avoided a hat-trick of defeats after beating Harrow B team 3-2 on Wednesday. The winners now have their sights set on the quarterfinals of the South-eastern School Sports Association’s Plate competition.

The Harrow A team used their wingers to torment the fragile B team defence, and expose the weaknesses of their goalkeeper, at the university’s sports ground in Chiswick.

Despite Mandeep Dhillon claiming the first goal for Harrow B, the first half was dictated by the A team. During the second half, Harrow B’s midfielders took advantage of Harrow A’s Mubarak Bux being sent off, only for their strikers to squander some good scoring opportunities.

After five goals and an abundance of wasted chances both sides had reason to glean considerable satisfaction. Despite Harrow A being the ones to pop open the bubbly, the ups and downs of the game were beautifully balanced.

One difference between the two sides was Harrow A’s Oliver Knight, whose daring runs from defence were like the antics of Ashley Cole against Arsenal opponents.

The game was more like a friendly than an example of old-firm rivalry, with group photographs before the match, and a dodgy Indian meal together at the end.

Onslo Rahman, the man in charge of football at Harrow, used this as an ideal chance to prepare his team for the quarterfinals. They are most likely to meet either Hackney Community College or South Essex College.
