Tribute
To "Men In Uniform" 
P O W Lewis M. Baird, at the age of 67, was taken from his
home in Elk Valley, Tennessee by Confederate Soldiers,
and taken to Salisbury, North Carolina. Oct. 1862.

Born
in Elk Valley, TN; entered the Army at 15,
2nd Armored division, Commanded by General George S. Patton
March 17,1941. He was
promoted to rank of Sergeant, Staff Sergeant,
Communications Chief. Served in
combat in N. Africa, Sicily, France
Belgium and Germany for 3
years until the end of WWII in 1945.
He went on to complete
20 yrs. military service in 1961 retiring at the
rank of Master Sergeant.
He entered the U.S. Civil Service as a
Communications Specialist where he
served another 17 1/2 in the
Dept. of Defense before
finally retiring as Grade GS-13 in 1980
