West Oakland Asthma Coalition
March 2005

Congratulations to our friend Priscilla Ward for passing the Asthma Educator Certification exam!  Jewel is taking a prep class and plans to sit for the exam soon.  We are very glad to see more and more certified asthma educators in the field.  It lets us know that the material being taught follows national guidelines and that the educator is well-rounded in all aspects of asthma and delivering the information to diverse groups of people.

Jewel, Valerie and Vanessa have been meeting deliverables for CAFA, Kaiser, EBCF, and OKA.  Jewel has now taught a K-2 class and we continue to work on refining this process.  Mindy Landmark at EHI and the CAFA program has arranged many classes for us in Berkeley and Oakland.

Mary will be out of the country in March as a volunteer with Project Hope on the USNS Mercy helping tsunami victims.  Being a pediatric PACU nurse is a specialty that is in demand over there.

We are building a better website…hope to have it up and running for the next update.
