Sometime in the mid 60's Diego left the city for some unknown reason (summons from the Old World are theorized, but only he knows) and the city was left in charge of a competent, but brash Ventrue antitribu named Marcus Elliot. He managed to keep the order in the city for a few months before hell broke loose. Without Diego to lead, smaller factions inside the Sabbat began fighting among themselves, and skirmishes erupted into all-out war. It was during this time that many of the old records of Kindred activity in the Miami area were destroyed as Diego's mansion in Miami Beach was assaulted and burned to the ground by a group of rebel antitribu. The Ventrue packed and left for Ft. Lauderdale where they established their powerbase, leaving Miami as little more than a warzone. While still leading in name, Marcus never cared to set foot in Miami once again, and after natural selection had weeded out the strongest from the weak among the warring factions, Marcus made the craziest move ever devised by a Kindred in his position: he gave control of the city to Samuel Parlor, a Malkavian antitribu. Samuel immediately ordered his clan to Embrace enough mortals to skyrocket the number of Malkavs to almost twice that of other Kindred in the city. The deranged vampires soon went on a rampage and destroyed as many as thirty other Kindred, firmly establishing their control.
The Malkavs ruled Miami during the late seventies and early eighties. During this time, Camarilla presence was small, with only a handful of vampires belonging to any of the seven clans. Anastasia was in Russia at the time of the Malkavian coup, and was angered beyond belief when, at her return, found the city less than a shadow than what is used to be. In a move that would place her in the forefront of Kindred politics in Miami, she stormed her way into Marcus' office, and in front of three other Ventrue antitribu, declared Marcus and unfitting ruler and killed him, draining him of all his blood. Anastasia left Ft. Lauderdale with definite plans on how to recover the city.
She contacted fellow Toreadors in New York, and had them spread the news that Miami was in shambles and in need of a Prince. Almost immediately a Ventrue coterie left for Miami, led by Cameron MacIntyre. They settled in Ft. Lauderdale, in accommodations once owned by the antitribu and from there launched their campaign to recover Miami for the Camarilla. Little did Cameron know of the machinations occurring in the background.
