Back It was Anastasia who had been providing Cameron his financial backup in order to execute the coup in Miami, allowing the Ventrue to, at first, buy stock in many wealthy companies, and eventually purchase four of those. All those assets now belong to Anastasia, much to Cameron's surprise and anger. However, Diego had been able to spot the little plan of the Toreador, and by manipulation and some brute force he placed himself at Cameron's side, becoming his advisor. Diego also spotted Anastasia's involvement in the charade to some extent, and was able to divert some of the funds provided by her into private ventures and investments that eventually left him owning half of one of the previously mentioned companies and two other smaller operations. Both Elders kept operating from the shadows at this time, not wanting to stain their hands with Malkav blood. Anastasia's plan was a simple one, let the Ventrues clean Miami of the Malkavs, use up all their resources in the process, and once the coup was over, take the city from the weary and impoverished Ventrue's hands. It worked, until Diego figured it out. Once Diego had realized what the Toreador was up to (and giving her due credit for her thinking) he stepped in to finish her work, and when the opportunity presented itself, kidnapped the Primogen and kept her trapped for five years, enough to send the city into chaos. The Malkavs were eradicated almost to extinction, and the Ventrues did take control of the city. Anastasia began her coup but was captured in the process by the Lasombra, leaving her small alliance without a leader and sending it into disarray. In the five years of her imprisonment, 75% of the Kindred population of Miami was killed when the Tremere betrayed the alliance and delivered the Kindred into the Sabbat hands. War raged in Miami for five months. The Tremere suffered a civil war inside their chantry between the traitors and the allies; all the allied warlocks were killed. The Toreador lost some of its newer members to random violence, leaving only Carlos in charge of the clan (an irony, considering Carlos is a Ventrue). The Gangrel were all put to the sun somewhere in the fields west of the city. It was a veritable holocaust. Diego took control of the city from Cameron and became Prince in all but name, leaving the survivors to their own devices, comfortable in the knowledge that without Anastasia they had no one strong enough to lead them against him. Then Nina and Ben managed to rescue Anastasia from right under the Sabbat's nose and the fight was resumed. Miami stands now at a crossroad, a standstill. Neither Sabbat nor Camarilla, Miami is a contested city, one operating under very different rules than other cities sharing its status, all due to the very distinct nature of its two major players, Anastasia and Diego, together and at odds once again after half a century.
