Experience
· 1989, Peoples Drug Stores Distribution Center, Alexandria, Virginia. Operated forklifts and pallet jacks, loading merchandise into semi-trailers in a large warehouse facility.
· 1991-92, Various warehouse assignments through Manpower inc., including six months at Medsurg. Inc., Herndon, Virginia, operating forklifts, order pickers and carousel systems, pulling and palletizing medical supplies for assembly into surgical kits. Gained experience using computerized inventory systems.
· 1993-95, Temporary to permanent hire at Intersport ltd., Sterling, Virginia. (soccer equipment wholesaler) Rearranged warehouse layout to create more efficient and ergonomic work-space. Initiated alpha-numeric stock location system to reduce order picking errors. Trained and led pick/pack crews. Hired, trained and supervised second shift, during peak summer season. Received, inspected and inventoried shipments from vendors.  Operated UPS shipping system and prepared bills of lading for common carrier shipments. Assumed responsibilities of dismissed assistant warehouse manager. Conducted bi-annual physical inventories and implemented cycle count schedule.
· 1996-2000, Stores-keeper (sorry, I refused to refer to myself as a “waterspider”),  shipper I ,and  shipper II, at Mountain Safety Research inc., Seattle, Washington under REI ownership. Provided raw materials to production lines using kan-ban parts replenishment system. Pulled, picked and packed customer orders. Operated and maintained forklifts and narrow aisle reach trucks. Traveled finished goods from production lines to finished goods warehouse, managed finished goods stock by sku# in first-in / first-out (fifo) order. Operated UPS on-line shipping system, Hewlett Packard Paragon mail processor and prepared bills of lading and commercial invoices for overseas shipments. Participated in move to larger facility and set up new material stores and finished goods warehouse infrastructure. Handled large shipments to REI Distribution Center and individual REI stores worldwide. Worked with research and development team, field testing new equipment prototypes.
· 2001, Appalachian Trail thru-hike, Georgia to Maine, 2,168 miles in 158 days.
· 2002 to present, Working catch-as-catch-can as carpenters helper.
