I am currently keeping 3 milksnakes. Milksnakes are quite impressive snakes. You can really feel their muscular bodies well. There are a lot of species that come in many bright colors. Milksnakes are generally more skiddish when young. Most get tamer with age and handling. For some reason my milks seem to grow much slower than any of my other snakes. They can't handle food items that are too large very well. Also, milksnakes seem to need higher humidity during shedding or else they will have a bad shed. I have a pair of Nelson's Milksnakes. Both are heterozygous for albino! In a year or two I will definately breed them. If I ever get a tattoo, I think I'd like a Nelson's Milksnake done. I think that would look so cool. Not that Nelson's milks are my most favorite snake, I just like the milksnake body shape and Nelson's colors.
  • Name: Thylus
  • Species: Nelson's Milksnake
  • Scientific: Lampropeltis triangulum nelsoni
  • Type: normal, het. for albino
  • Gender: Male
  • Hatch Date: Unknown
  • Obtained: 3/31/01
  • Weight: 130gms (7-15-02)
  • Length:
Thylus was my first milksnake. I expected to get bit by him often but he only did once when I was hand shedding him and that was his way of saying "Quit it already!". He was such a little guy I barely felt it and I even thought it was cute. The only bad thing about him is that when I pick him up he often craps on me. He has always been a great feeder and I'm hoping he will reach adult size by the end of the summer (2002). Still a lot of growing to do!

  • Name: Thera
  • Species: Nelson's Milksnake
  • Scientific: Lampropeltis triangulum nelsoni
  • Type: normal, het. for albino
  • Gender: Female
  • Hatch Date: Unknown
  • Obtained: 5/26/01
  • Weight: 146gms (7-15-02)
  • Length:
Thera is a truely beautiful milksnake with a commanding presence. I got a good deal on her, considering she is het. for albino. She is older and bigger than Thylus. Someday I hope she gives me some nice albino babies! She is a lot easier to handle and I believe this is due to her age. However, she is the only "larger" snake of mine that has bitten me good. But that was my fault because one time she had a terrible shed and most of it stayed on, so I had to soak her (shebeing put into water!) and then hand-shed her and she did NOT like it. I still love her and I'm not afraid of her.

  • Name: Deodar
  • Species: Pueblan Milksnake
  • Scientific: Lampropeltis triangulum campbelli
  • Type: Apricot
  • Gender: Female
  • Hatch Date: unkwn
  • Obtained: 11/24/01
  • Weight: 37gms (7-15-02)
When I bought Deodar she was a little on the thin side and looked a bit dehydrated. But I really liked her colors and the fact that she was female. She is very jumpy but also a little eating machine! Good-old milksnakes :) Gotta love um.
