Ballet Jörgen is Canada's choreographic ballet company. Ballet
Jörgen was founded in October 1987 by Bengt Jörgen, Artistic
Director of the Company and a choreographer in his own right. In 1992,
in partnership with George Brown College, Mr. Jörgen formed a dance
school, now named George Brown Dance, a professional training ground for
students of ballet and modern dance. Arnold Spohr, renowned creative force
in Canadian dance and Artistic Director Emeritus of the Royal Winnipeg
Ballet, joined Ballet Jörgen in1993 as its Associate Director because
he passionately believes in the mission of the Company to find and develop
new choreographers.
Bengt Jörgen has built an innovative choreographic company which
presents original works in Toronto and on tour, and provides training for
choreographers and dancers. Mary Jago-Romeril, former Principal Dancer
with the National Ballet of Canada, joined the Company as its Artistic
Associate in the fall of 1998, to compliment the current artistic team
in working with the dancers. In February 1995, Ballet Jörgen made
its debut in New York City. The New York Times wrote Š The Company's mission
is creating new ballets, and freshness, authority and intelligence are
hallmarks of its work. and The company is a rare and exhilarating find
. Ballet Jörgen was honoured with the Lieutenant Governor's Award
for the Arts in1996 and again in 1998, for its impressive accomplishments
in forging partnerships with the private sector and within the community.

in November 1995, and was refurbished in1998, the co-production by Banff
Centre for the Arts and Ballet Jörgen of the full-length Romeo and
Juliet, which premiered in February 1998, and its accessible Program of
