I have to love a show where immediately
after a romantic scene we see a phallic ship entering a cargo bay. This
was an all-around fun episode. Nothing really momentous in terms of
the entire series arc, but still an episode that helped flesh out the
Crusade characters.
First of all, one of the biggest
breakout characters in the series is Max Eilerson. Sure, he's profit
minded, acerbic, and a know-it-all, but now we see the reasons why he
acts the way he does. The way he protects his ex-wife shows that he
is also a man capable of doing some good, despite is annoying side.
I never would have thought it, but he's rapidly becoming one of my favorite
characters. In speaking of surprises, who knew that Dr. Chambers' medical
training included the kicking of ass?
Then we have Lochely and Gideon
finally doing the horizontal hokey-pokey. I was wondering if JMS was
going to have them do it, and strangely enough, it seemed to work. While
I'm not always a fan of romantic comedy, Scoggins and Cole have a nice
chemistry together, and their relationship helps make them more three-dimensional.
Of course, there are the little
problems as well. For one, the Lorkans just didn't work for me. They
were just a little too much for me, and never really presented much
of a threat. They just didn't seem to present any real threat. They
were just there. Unfortunately, I don't think Tim Choate should hang
up his Zathras costume quite yet... :)
All in all, this was a fun episode.
A lot of it seemed to be a sequel to Ruling From The Tomb, continuing
Gideon and Lochley's relationship and keeping a parallel thread of religious
extremism and terrorism. The tone of this episode was light enough that
it managed to click together well.
