BUILDING CAPACITIES FOR PEACEKEEPING AND WOMEN´S DIMENSIONS IN PEACE PROCESSES
Joint Conference  Chile - European Union - Denmark
Santiago, 4 - 5  November 2002
The Governments of Chile and Denmark have taken the initiative to organize a Bi-regional Conference on "Building Capacities for Peacekeeping and Women’s Dimensions in Peace Processes" which will take place in Santiago, Chile on  the 4th and 5th of November 2002.

The purpose of the Conference is to increase the cooperation between both regions by exchanging ideas concerning the role of women in peace processes and peace operations. The Conference should be considered as an activity in the framework of the Rio Summit of 1999 and the Madrid Summit this year between the European Community and Latin American and the Caribbean countries.

Aiming to cover all the main aspects of this subject, a group of worldwide experts has been invited to participate and share their experiences with the participants during the 4th and 5th of November 2002.

This Conference is sponsored by the Governments of Chile and Denmark and by the European Community. With their grants it will be possible to fund the participation of almost a hundred experts from Latin American and Caribbean countries, the European Community and lecturers belonging to the Peacekeeping Department of the United Nations.

The Conference organizers will take care of the internal transportation, meals and lodging between Sunday 3rd until Wednesday 6th of November 2002. All countries belonging to the European Community, Latin America and the Caribbean are invited to participate in the Conference by sending their civilian, military or police representatives. The  participants should be high ranking persons dedicated to peace operations, hopefully  focused on women. The languages to be used during the Conference will be English and Spanish with  simultaneous translation available.
